The ISSR is a publicly funded English-speaking school founded by the City of Stockholm in response to the growing demand for a truly international education. ISSR became an IB World School in 1999. The Södermalm campus has a long history, with the Södermalm Secondary School for girls established in 1939 and moved to Bohusgatan 24–26 in 1945. ISSR moved onto that campus in 2012, and in 2016 ISSR became an IB Continuum World School. Today ISSR hosts more than 600 students from more than 70 countries.
ISSR fosters a caring, inclusive community with a House system (Lynx, Wolf, Bear, Fox) to promote social integration and school spirit. A dedicated Student Care Team supports wellbeing with a nurse, a school counsellor and special needs teachers. The school encourages student involvement through a peer-helper programme and a range of culture and community clubs, with community service integrated into DP and MYP. Beyond the classroom, learning continues with activities after lessons.
Parents and guardians of ISSR students are automatically members of the PTA. There are no fees or dues, and involvement can be through volunteering or simply attending events. The PTA emphasizes that parent involvement enriches the educational experience for children. You can contact the PTA via the 'Mail ISSR PTA' option. Participation in the PTA helps support ISSR's community.
