Introduction

Malmö International School (MIS) is funded by the City of Malmö and offers the IB continuum for ages 3–16. MIS provides Early Years (EYP), Primary Years (PYP) and Middle Years (MYP). EYP is integrated in the PYP for 3–5 year-olds, with a four-hour day and a play-based, inquiry-led approach. The PYP covers ages 3–12 under six themes—Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, The Arts, and Personal, Social and Physical Education—and culminates in the PYP Exhibition. The MYP serves ages 12–16 with eight subject groups and criterion-related assessment. MIS began in 1996 as a UN project, later becoming Malmö International School; it earned IB authorization for PYP (2011) and MYP (2016) and fully adopted IB in 2018. In 2024 MIS moved to a new Hyllie building funded by Malmö. Facilities include a library, a Student Welfare Team, and meals with organic options. After School Care runs 07:00–17:30 and offers drama, poetry, singing, reading and physical education. Cultural and language clubs promote international mindedness and diversity.

Fees

Annual tuition at Malmö International School ranges from up to SEK 22,164 for 2026/27.

Application fees
- There is no application fee for enrolment in Malmö International School for compulsory years (PYP1–MYP4).

Tuition fees by year group (per term / per year)
- PYP1–MYP4 (compulsory school years / ages roughly 6–16): Tuition is free. No tuition is charged per term or per academic year.
- Early Years (EY, preschool ages 3–5): Preschool places are charged under the municipal income‑based fee system; fees are calculated monthly according to household income (see preschool / maxtaxa details below). Preschool is not charged as a termly tuition but as a monthly municipal fee.

Preschool (EY) and After‑School Care (fritids) — fee details
- Preschool (for children 3–5 with a full‑time place): Fee is calculated as a percentage of household monthly income for the first three children; percentages vary by income bracket. For households at or above the municipal maxtaxa threshold the monthly maximum amounts are: first child SEK 1,847; second child SEK 1,231; third child SEK 616. These amounts are billed monthly.
- After‑School Care / Fritids (for eligible pupils up to PYP6): Fee is calculated as a percentage of household monthly income for the first three children; for households at or above the maxtaxa threshold the monthly maximums are: first child SEK 1,231; second child SEK 616; third child SEK 616. These amounts are billed monthly.
- Reduced monthly rates apply automatically from August in the year the child turns 3 (children aged 3–6 with full‑time preschool receive the lower fritids rate August–May).

Billing schedule and payment terms
- Preschool and fritids fees are billed monthly. Invoices are normally sent to the household where the child is registered; only one invoice recipient can be chosen per household. You pay the billed fee from the child's first day of enrolment. You remain liable for fees during periods the child is absent (for example summer break) and during any notice period when a place is cancelled.
- If you do not submit household income information, the municipal maxtaxa will be charged automatically. Syskonrabatt (sibling discount) applies and fees are charged for up to three children per household.

Boarding fees
- Boarding is not applicable. Malmö International School is a municipal day school and does not operate boarding facilities. No boarding fees apply.

Other costs and optional charges
- School tuition for compulsory years is free and no mandatory school uniform is required. Standard additional costs that families commonly cover themselves may include personal school supplies, optional extracurricular activities, voluntary school trips or excursions, and travel/commuting costs. The municipality provides school lunches and textbooks for pupils in compulsory school.

Refund information and credit adjustments
- If a fee has been overpaid or a credit is due, the municipality issues a credit and can reimburse via the Swedbank account register or by direct bank transfer to the account details provided. Adjustments are handled through municipal billing procedures and will be processed as credit notes or refunds. Late or unpaid invoices will generate reminders and may be forwarded to collection, with interest and reminder fees applied according to municipal billing rules.

Fee payment options
- Municipal invoices for preschool and fritids can be paid via e‑invoice (internet bank), digital mail services (e.g., Kivra), autogiro (direct debit), paper invoice or other municipal payment channels. The municipality sends reminders as paper mail and provides options for electronic invoicing and automatic debit. Specific payment arrangements (autogiro, e‑faktura) are set up via the payer's bank or municipal billing service.

Note: Malmö International School charges no tuition for compulsory IB years; the only recurring charges that may apply for children at the school are the municipal preschool (EY) and after‑school care (fritids) fees billed under the city's income‑based schedule and standard municipal billing procedures.
