The school sits along Lake Mälaren in a serene environment near the historic town of Sigtuna and Arlanda Airport. SSHL is a Swedish boarding school and high school with an international outlook. There are eight boarding houses: Backa, Berga, Björka, Haga, Midgården, Sandvreten, Skoga and Tallåsen. The campus hosts 565 students, including 205 boarders. SSHL is run by Sigtuna School Foundation and is not-for-profit.
The large indoor hall accommodates basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, badminton and more; it also provides space for dancing and fencing. The gym is adjacent to the hall, and outside there are facilities for street basketball and beach volleyball. Outdoor facilities include a tennis court, a football field and a sports ground for athletics along Lake Mälaren. Boathouses hold canoes and racing boats for rowing. The sports and activities programme offers additional organized activities, including tennis, badminton, theatre, dance, football and rowing, with SSHL teams competing in events such as SIPSI.
The IB Diploma Programme is taught in English. SSHL offers the IB Diploma Programme, the IB Career-related Programme and the IB Middle Years Programme. The language of teaching on the IB Diploma Programme is English. SSHL also runs Swedish High School Gymnasium Programmes Year 10–12. The SSHL library is a pedagogical resource with extensive print and digital reference books, magazines and other texts, and it cooperates with Sigtuna Foundation's Library and Sigtuna Municipal Library to broaden access to materials.
SSHL provides a broad extracurricular program, with a sports and activities programme that includes a large indoor hall and outdoor facilities for basketball, volleyball, tennis, football and rowing, among other activities. The House Series pits eight houses against each other in football, basketball, rowing and athletics, with a multisport option that includes table tennis, darts, chess, pool and gaming. Clubs and societies cover a wide range of interests, including the Kenya Project, Life-Link, Chess Club, Debating Society, Design and Technology, Environmental Society, Music Association and many others. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Programme is also available to SSHL students.
