English and German are the languages of instruction with a balanced bilingual model. In Primary School, classes are held in two languages with English weeks taught by English-speaking teachers and German weeks taught by German-speaking teachers; all subjects are taught in the current language. French is taught in Grades 5 and 6. DaZ and EAL support, as well as Learning Support, are available.
The school offers a fully immersive English and German (50:50) programme with equal instruction in both languages.
Immersion occurs through an immersive bilingual model across the primary school. Classes alternate English weeks with English-speaking teachers and German weeks with German-speaking teachers so that every class experiences both languages. All subjects, including Mathematics and Environmental and Social Studies, are taught in the current week's language. Specialist subjects such as Physical Education, Crafts, Design, Technology (CDT), Music, Drama and Coding are taught in both languages by native English- and German-speaking teachers. French is taught in Grades 5 and 6. German as an Additional Language (DaZ), English as an Additional Language (EAL), and Learning Support are available. A Bilingual Matura pathway is available for upper levels.
Lakeside School – Horgen offers a bilingual Swiss curriculum for ages 3 to 12, blending Pre-K through Primary education with the bilingual Matura path in partnership with Freies Gymnasium Zürich. In Pre-K and Kindergarten, each class has English-speaking and German-speaking teachers, exposing children to both languages. In Primary School, instruction is delivered in English and German, with one native English-speaking and one native German-speaking teacher sharing responsibilities; there is an English week when all subjects are taught in English and a German week when they are taught in German, with subjects taught in either language. Lehrplan 21 is supplemented by international inputs. The campus in central Horgen includes a Kindergarten House with a garden, and a Primary School House housing a music room, a crafts/design/technology room, a drama room, and an in-house library. On-site gym hall with a climbing wall supports physical education, and language support rooms assist multilingual learning. Upper school continues bilingual Matura up to the Swiss Matura.
