Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

May 2019 marks the start of LIFT, when about twenty French parents in Taipei formed working groups and began formal contacts with Taiwan's Ministry of Education, the French Office in Taipei, and the AEFE. In October 2019 the project was formalized as a French-law association called Association Pour Une Éducation Française et une Culture Européenne à Taiwan (AEFECET), chaired by Stéphanie Froissart. Throughout 2020 the group pursued site selection and fundraising, and in December 2020 an association under Taiwanese law was created to organize the future parent community: UPLIFT, with thirty founding members. Odyssey International initially joined as an investor in September 2020 and withdrew in January 2021; a Memorandum of Understanding with Taibei High to host LIFT followed in 2021. By May 2022 LIFT was officially registered as an experimental educational institution, having identified a campus site and signed a three-year rental agreement; the project is described as an autonomous initiative led by Francophone parents and the French business community, not affiliated with the Taipei European Establishment.

Community

LIFT describes itself as a tri-lingual learning environment (French, Chinese, English) designed for the French-speaking and Francophile communities in Taiwan. Its governance is described as transparent, inclusive, and participatory, with a nine-member board including parent representatives, the Head of School, and members from the French business community. Parents report a strong sense of belonging, with statements that LIFT is like a big family of parents and teachers and that parents have an important role in school life. The school emphasizes community and cultural ties through ongoing parent involvement and communication channels.

Parent-Teacher Association

UPLIFT, the LIFT parent association, was created in December 2020 under Taiwanese law with about 30 founding members, with Alexandre Levy serving as its first president. An executive committee operates under the UPLIFT Administrative Committee to coordinate parent engagement and liaise with school leadership. UPLIFT has led fundraising efforts, including a Founding Option mechanism announced in November 2021 to secure sponsorship from major French groups and local sponsors. In 2021, fundraising activities involved events and outreach by the French business community, including gatherings at the Residence to initiate fundraising. Parents participate through meetings, newsletters, and volunteering, and the school emphasizes that parents have an important role and that LIFT is like a big family of parents and teachers. The PTA works with school leadership on governance and long-term development planning.
