MDID provides opportunities for academic enrichment beyond the classroom. The MDID Life @ MDID blog records participation in Model United Nations conferences (including the 2025 IIS Model United Nations) and multiple debate competitions, including NSDA tournaments and the Peach State Classic. It also features science-focused activities such as the Scientific Debate and Science Fair.
Arts and creative activities include MDID Got Talent, Art Exhibition, and Christmas Prom. The life blog highlights student clubs and creative skill-building events such as Club Time Mini Course: Public Speaking. Visual arts and performing arts are showcased through exhibitions and performances.
Cultural and language activities include Chinese Cultural Week (MDID Chinese Cultural Week) in 2025 and other cultural events. The program supports international exchanges, including the Kaichi Exchange Students Program. These activities foster cross-cultural understanding and global awareness.
Social and hobbies: MDID runs sports teams and hosts matches, including basketball and soccer. The Life @ MDID blog shows athletic events such as the Mingdao Soccer Team's friendly matches and the MDID Basketball Team's competitive games. Students can join clubs and teams to participate in inter-school competitions.
Community and service activities: MDID runs volunteer and community service programs, including the Kenya volunteer project. The IB CAS component also emphasizes service as part of the holistic development.
Leadership and professional development: CAS at MDID is a core IB element that fosters leadership and reflective practice. A CAS Coordinator and G11/G12 CAS Advisers oversee the program and guide students through CAS learning outcomes. The school also runs leadership-related activities such as MUN and debate, and hosts Winter IntroMUN training.
Lifestyle and wellbeing activities: The CAS program emphasizes balance of creativity, activity, and service to develop self-awareness and resilience. MDID supports physical activity through sports teams and events, which contribute to students' physical and mental wellbeing.
Mingdao High School International Department (MDID) is the international arm of Mingdao High School in Taichung, Taiwan. It delivers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP). MDID was established in 2012; DP authorization was granted in May 2018, MYP authorization in January 2019, and CP authorization in 2023. Classes run on a semester system with 50-minute lessons across eight blocks in a five-day cycle, and instruction is delivered in English with Chinese and a second foreign language taught as part of the curriculum. The language of instruction is English, and MDID offers a second foreign language program including French, Spanish, German and Japanese, alongside Chinese language study and English language/Literature. The department is committed to a holistic, globally minded education and supports strong university pathways and a broad programme of co‑curricular activities.
