MDID originated from Mingdao's Global Citizenship Program (GCP), established in 2007 to broaden options for students seeking overseas study. In 2012, the GCP program evolved into Mingdao International Department (MDID). Starting in 2014, MDID functioned as an IB candidate school to prepare facilities, leadership, and the entire school community to seek authorization to deliver the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Grades 7-10 and the Diploma Programme (DP) for Grades 11-12. MDID received DP authorization in May 2018 and MYP authorization in January 2019, and gained Career-related Programme (CP) authorization in 2023. By 2024, MDID was the only international school in Taichung and southern Taiwan authorized to offer CP.
MDID operates within Mingdao High School in Taichung, with instruction delivered primarily in English, while Chinese and a second foreign language are taught. The MDID community engages students through a calendar of cultural, academic, and co-curricular events, including cultural festivals, academic competitions, sports tournaments, and creative arts showcases. The MDID events calendar highlights activities such as Model United Nations (MDMUN), debates, public-speaking clubs, and athletic matches. MDID emphasizes globally-minded values as part of its core mission and values Holistic, Character, and Humanity.
Mingdao High School International Department (MDID) is the international arm of Mingdao High School in Taichung, Taiwan. It delivers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP). MDID was established in 2012; DP authorization was granted in May 2018, MYP authorization in January 2019, and CP authorization in 2023. Classes run on a semester system with 50-minute lessons across eight blocks in a five-day cycle, and instruction is delivered in English with Chinese and a second foreign language taught as part of the curriculum. The language of instruction is English, and MDID offers a second foreign language program including French, Spanish, German and Japanese, alongside Chinese language study and English language/Literature. The department is committed to a holistic, globally minded education and supports strong university pathways and a broad programme of co‑curricular activities.
