Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Taipei European School (TES) originated from the merger of three expatriate schools in Taipei: the Taipei British School, Ecole Française de Taipei and Deutsche Schule Taipei. In 1994, the Taipei European Schools Foundation was established with a donation from the Swire Group, and Dr. C. V. Chen served as its chairman. The three schools were formally integrated into a single Taipei European School in 2003, creating a unified campus and governance structure. The primary campus on Wenlin Road was completed in 2007, and a new building at the secondary campus was completed in 2020 to expand facilities. Europe Day in May 2022 marked TES's 30th anniversary celebrations.

Community

TES describes its community as diverse and vibrant, with representation from about 55 nationalities. The school emphasizes celebrating individual cultures within one school and notes that culture is a central part of school life. Teachers come from across the globe, and the community highlights warmth, engagement, and collaboration among students, parents and staff. The Community page also points to ongoing events and a wide range of activities across the four sections, with regular updates in News Events.

Parent-Teacher Association

Taipei European School runs a Parent Support Council (PSC), functioning as the school's primary PTA-like body. The PSC meets monthly to help support major community events across the school. It is represented by the four section parent associations: British Primary, French Section, German, and European Secondary Campus. The PSC team for 2024-25 includes a Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretaries, with representatives from each section. Additional members from the section parent associations participate in PSC activities to coordinate parent involvement and engagement for students, staff and the wider TES community. The PSC explicitly states its purpose to foster opportunities and engagement for the school community.

Taipei European School (TES) is a federation of three European language sections (British/English, French, and German) operating within one school. The Primary Campus is in central Taipei (Shilin District) and the Secondary Campus is up in the Yangmingshan hills. TES offers multiple curricula across sections: the British section follows IB programmes (MYP in the middle years and DP/CP in the high school), the French section follows the French national curriculum (with the Brevet and Baccalauréat), and the German section follows the German curriculum. The school emphasizes multilingual education and cultural diversity, with students from dozens of countries. TES is a co-educational day school with no boarding provision and provides a wide range of co-curricular activities, including sport, performing arts and language clubs. The CEO is Mr. John Nixon. TES publishes admissions, fees and policies on its site and maintains two campus libraries and extensive student support services.
