Let the school know you're thinking of applying — they can share their prerequisites and help you through the process.
It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
1. Application and Supporting Documents: TYAS accepts students from Grades 1-12 holding a foreign passport. Class sizes are limited; if a class reaches the maximum, the remaining applicants go on a waiting list. To apply, fill out the Taoyuan American School Application for Admission Google form and upload the required documents. The documents include immunization records and the student's records from the past two years in English, with Grade 1 requiring kindergarten report cards or teacher comments; Grades 2-8 requiring two years of report cards; Grades 9-12 requiring official transcripts for all years; after submission, the application is reviewed within 5–10 business days; overseas applicants may be pre-accepted, but final admissions decisions and grade placement are made after screening.
If a class reaches the maximum number of students, the remaining applicants are placed on a waiting list.
Taoyuan American School (TYAS) offers an American-based curriculum for grades 1–12, taught in English, with Advanced Placement (AP) courses available. The campus sits on the Kainan University campus in Luzhu District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan, and TYAS notes a lake view from the site. TYAS describes its curriculum as American-based and aligned with the California State Board of Education common core standards, with English Language Arts, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Visual Arts, Music, Computer Science and Physical Education taught across the elementary grades; the middle school adds Public Speaking and Journalism, while the high school includes Spanish among its offerings. AP courses have been offered since 2016, with a rotating roster (e.g., AP Calculus AB, AP World History, AP Chinese Language and Culture, AP Computer Science A, AP English Literature and Composition, AP European History, AP Physics 1, and AP 2-D Art and Design). TYAS supports a door-to-door bus service and emphasizes small class sizes (the site notes a 4:1 student‑to‑faculty ratio). The current principal is Dr. Fujiing Shiue, who joined TYAS in August 2024.
