Taoyuan American School is located on the campus of Kainan University in Luzhu District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. The school offers an American-based educational program augmented by a deep respect for learning, development, and achievement. The motto is 'Preparing our students today, for the future of tomorrow.' The vision is to be a vibrant multicultural community of lifelong learners who thrive today and lead tomorrow as responsible global citizens. The mission focuses on holistic development and preparing students for lifelong success, combining academic achievement with social and emotional well-being to cultivate diligent, resilient, and adaptable learners.
TYAS hosts a range of community events that connect students, families, and staff. The school schedules events such as Lunar New Year celebrations, Christmas celebrations and cultural festivals, and the Christmas Bazaar. Sports Day is a central TYAS tradition, moved to the fall semester in 2024 to foster community spirit and teamwork. TYAS also hosts cultural exchanges and immersion experiences, including hosting Keishin High School for cultural immersion.
TYAS conducts Parent-Teacher Conferences twice each academic year to strengthen home–school partnerships and support student growth. The conferences include a lunchtime workshop on emotional well-being, led by licensed clinician Dr. Yi-Hsuan Pan, with topics on emotional regulation and resilience. Language support is offered during conferences to assist families who are not fluent in English. Feedback from families and teachers has been positive, and the school emphasizes collaborative planning for each student's academic and social development.
Taoyuan American School (TYAS) offers an American-based curriculum for grades 1–12, taught in English, with Advanced Placement (AP) courses available. The campus sits on the Kainan University campus in Luzhu District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan, and TYAS notes a lake view from the site. TYAS describes its curriculum as American-based and aligned with the California State Board of Education common core standards, with English Language Arts, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Visual Arts, Music, Computer Science and Physical Education taught across the elementary grades; the middle school adds Public Speaking and Journalism, while the high school includes Spanish among its offerings. AP courses have been offered since 2016, with a rotating roster (e.g., AP Calculus AB, AP World History, AP Chinese Language and Culture, AP Computer Science A, AP English Literature and Composition, AP European History, AP Physics 1, and AP 2-D Art and Design). TYAS supports a door-to-door bus service and emphasizes small class sizes (the site notes a 4:1 student‑to‑faculty ratio). The current principal is Dr. Fujiing Shiue, who joined TYAS in August 2024.
