Yoder International Academy (YIA) was founded in August 2019 by the nonprofit Hsieh Yoder Educational Foundation and registered with the Taoyuan City Department of Education in the same month. It operates as an experimental education institution offering grades 6–12, blending the US middle/high school curriculum with elements of Taiwan's education system. It is the only experimental education institution in Taoyuan City accredited by the Department of Education to admit elementary through high school students (Gr.6–12). It has pursued international accreditation and partnerships, becoming Cognia accredited in 2022, joining the Council of International Schools in 2023, and enabling a College Board program to administer PSAT and SAT exams in Taoyuan. The school has participated in World Scholar's Cup events in 2023, earning medals and expanding opportunities for students to compete internationally.
YIA's community is active in international competition and cross‑cultural engagement. In March 2023, 37 students competed in the World Scholar's Cup Kaohsiung round against more than 400 peers from international schools in Taiwan, earning medals across multiple events. Later in 2023, YIA teams competed in the World Scholar's Cup Global Round in Seoul and the Tournament of Champions at Yale, earning 12 silver and 9 gold medals and gaining exposure to American universities. The community also hosts visits from professional teams and international delegates, including the Taoyuan Leopards pro volleyball team and seventeen American college representatives visiting for campus events and college fairs. Graduation ceremonies and school showcases are highlighted as part of the community life.
A formal Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is not publicly documented on YIA's site. However, parent involvement appears through community initiatives and support noted in posts, such as the Shoes for Life campaign in 2023 that mobilized students, families, and donors. Admissions seminars and campus events also indicate family engagement, with 2024 admissions information and seminars listed for prospective students and their families. Public posts acknowledge parental support for performances, graduation activities, and other events, underscoring ongoing family participation in school life. For formal PTA details, contact the school directly to inquire about organized parent‑teacher structures or opportunities to volunteer and participate.
