BASIS International School Bangkok opened in August 2019. It is part of the BASIS Curriculum Schools network, which was founded in 1998 in Tucson, Arizona. The founders, Dr. Michael and Olga Block, created the curriculum based on their observations that students educated abroad were more prepared for university. The Bangkok campus is the first BASIS International School in Thailand and was established with the intention of blending the BASIS curriculum with Thai culture.
BASIS International School Bangkok has an international community with students from over 30 countries and a staff primarily from the United States. The student body is a blend of Thai and international students. To foster a closer community, the school organizes cultural celebrations like the Songkran Festival, which honors local traditions. The school also participates in various sporting and academic events that promote teamwork and community spirit. Additionally, the school holds parent workshops and other events to encourage strong communication and involvement. The goal is to build a community that feels both internationally connected and rooted in Thai culture.
The school does not mention an official PTA, however the school uses email and a platform called Schoolzine for weekly updates and news. In the primary grades, the school uses a co-teaching model where a Learning Expert Teacher (LET) and a Subject Expert Teacher (SET) both communicate with parents. The LET is the main point of contact for a student's overall progress, while the SET communicates about their specific subject.
BASIS International School Bangkok is a private international school that serves students from Nursery through Grade 12.
