Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Berkeley embeds SEL through its Student Support Services (SSS) team and structured learning model. Classroom guidance lessons address interpersonal skills, emotional literacy, goal setting, and reflective thinking. SEL is integrated across the curriculum, encouraging students to develop empathy, self-awareness, and effective communication as part of their everyday learning experience. This ongoing program aligns closely with their Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

SEN support is provided by trained learning support specialists working closely with teachers and families.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school does offer EAL.

Mental Wellbeing

Berkeley offers personalized mental health support via both individual and small group counseling, delivered by certified counselors. These sessions help students manage stress, anxiety, transitions, and personal challenges. The counseling team works collaboratively with parents and teachers and provides workshops to raise parental awareness. When necessary, referrals to external professional providers or community resources are also facilitated.

Safeguarding

Berkeley places student protection at the top of its priorities, aligning its policies with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and UNICEF principles.

The school’s Child Protection Policy, developed by a Child Protection Task Force, requires all staff to report any suspicion of abuse or neglect. Every teacher and staff member undergoes annual safeguarding training, and background checks are completed during hiring.

A designated Safeguarding Lead and team manage disclosures and conduct investigations, following guidelines that emphasize confidentiality and fairness.

On-campus security is enforced with 24‑hour guards, CCTV, automated flap gates, and regular emergency drills. The school clinic is staffed with full-time nurses and carries AED equipment, and procedures exist to manage environmental and health risks, including allergies, air quality, and weather-related concerns.
