Chiang Mai International School (CMIS) started in 1954 as a small school for children of missionaries in northern Thailand. It now offers classes from preschool through Grade 12 and follows a U.S.-based curriculum taught in English. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and approved by the Thai Ministry of Education. High school students can take Advanced Placement (AP) courses that help prepare them for university. Students come from many different countries, and the school does not require any specific religious background. The school is located in Chiang Mai and has a range of facilities to support learning and activities. These include a swimming pool, sports fields, covered play and sports areas, a theatre, music and dance rooms, and classrooms for art and languages. Students can join activities outside of regular classes, such as sports or music. The school keeps its class sizes relatively small, and students of different ages and backgrounds learn together in a shared space.
