Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Ekamai International School began in 1946 as a church-operated training centre under the Seventh-day Adventist Mission and moved to its current campus in 1957. It was originally called Adventist English School and took on the name Ekamai International School in 1993, at which point it received its international school license from the Thai Ministry of Education.

Community

The school community gathers for cultural events such as Songkran celebrations, and invests students in community‑focused clubs like the Pathfinders and Adventurers. It also hosts joint initiatives, such as the collaborative Summer English Camp with BMA and local schools in June 2025, bringing students together in immersive English activities and outdoor learning.

Parent-Teacher Association

While the official website does not explicitly mention a formal PTA, several community events involve parents and teachers working together. For example, the EIS Fun Fair invites families to take part in school festivities, and the Senior Class Baccalaureate services include parental participation in ceremonial activities. Other events, such as the Level-Up Ceremony for Grade 2, are held in the school auditorium with parents present. These activities suggest active collaboration between school staff and families.

Ekamai International School (EIS) is a Christian, co‑educational international school in central‑east Bangkok, serving students from Pre‑K to Grade 12, with over 33 nationalities represented and approximately 77 % Thai families. Founded in 1946 and relocated to its current Watthana District campus in 1957, it sits on Sukhumvit 63 (Ekkamai) near the BTS Ekkamai station and the Eastern Bus Terminal, a well‑connected urban neighbourhood with cafés, shopping and transit links. EIS follows a US curriculum with Advanced Placement (AP) options in high school, and provides instruction in English as well as Thai language & culture, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, and Mandarin. A distinctive feature is its Pathfinder programme for Grades 5–8 students, which engages them in camping, nature hikes and leadership workshops as part of a global Adventist youth tradition. With accreditation by WASC and AAA, the school combines religious studies, a weekly chapel, and a supportive community grounded in spiritual values.
