Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Lanna International School was founded in 1993 by Paul and Surin, initially beginning as a small homeschool group. After Paul’s passing in the same year, Surin continued to oversee the development of the school. The school is governed by an Executive Board in line with Thai private school regulations. Surin, as the licensee, remains involved in the school’s management.

Community

The school hosts a variety of community and cultural events throughout the year. Students regularly organise Model United Nations conferences, including the Chiang Mai MUN, which Lanna co-founded. Other school-wide activities include house events, drama productions, and arts showcases.

Parent-Teacher Association

Parents participate in school governance through representation on the Executive Board, including a designated Parent Representative and a member of the Parent Teacher Organisation. The PTA was involved in organising the school’s 30th Anniversary Gala, which included student performances, an art auction, and fundraising for local youth organisations. Details about parent engagement and expectations are outlined in the school’s handbooks. Regular communication between families and the school is maintained through these structures.

Lanna International School Thailand started as a small homeschool setup. Over time, it developed into a full international school for students aged 2 to 18. In 2018, the school relocated to a single campus in the Hang Dong district of Chiang Mai. This allowed the school to place all age groups on one site. The student body includes children from many different countries and currently serves about 1,000 students. The school uses a British-based curriculum. Young children follow the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), and the primary years use Cambridge Primary and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Secondary students take Cambridge IGCSE exams and can continue with AS and A Levels. There is also an option to earn an American High School Certificate. The campus includes science and STEAM labs, libraries, art and music rooms, a gym, football field, swimming pool, and outdoor play and sports areas.
