Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Lighthouse International School Phuket was founded in 1999 by parents and educators, making it one of the earliest international schools in Phuket. It remains parent-led, with founders deeply involved in daily operations and committed to the school’s ongoing development.

Community

The Lighthouse community gathers regularly for family barbecues, international-themed events, and monthly cultural celebrations where students perform or display projects. These events often include themed activities such as Italian or Greek nights, along with student talent shows and parent participation in food and music

Parent-Teacher Association

Parents at Lighthouse are actively involved through a PTA-style role, contributing to events such as monthly community barbecues and cultural festivals. One parent with a catering business has provided food, while another parent with a DJ company organized music and interactive entertainment. Parents also support Sports Day, International Week, and grade-level showcases, collaborating closely with teachers to plan and deliver activities. Community meetings, informal discussions with parents and teachers, and open invitations to school assemblies ensure clear communication and collaboration.

Lighthouse International School Phuket’s Primary School campus in Rawai offers education for children aged 5 to 12 (Grades 1–6). It follows the Canadian Alberta curriculum, featuring native English-speaking teachers and Canadian-style assessments. Younger grades experience a Montessori-inspired approach with practical, project-based learning. Students take part in marine biology excursions, engaging directly with Phuket’s coastal environment. Class sizes average about 10 students, allowing personalized attention. Subject lessons include English, Thai, and French. The campus is situated in a residential, coastal neighbourhood off Wiset Road, close to beaches and local amenities. A distinctive feature is the school’s hands-on marine science programme, where children explore the natural surroundings through outdoor learning, an opportunity grounded in Phuket’s island context.
