RIS Swiss Section – Deutschsprachige Schule Bangkok was founded in 1963 by a Swiss teaching couple to serve the children of Swiss expatriates in Thailand. In 1983, the school became part of the larger Ruamrudee International School community, gaining access to additional facilities while retaining its independent governance. The campus moved to its current location in Minburi in 1991, offering more space for expansion. In 1993, the high school program was introduced with official approval from the Canton of Lucerne, and in 2011, an English-language track was added to strengthen bilingual education.
The school brings together a community of around 310 students from over 30 nationalities, with German and Swiss cultural traditions at its heart. Annual celebrations such as the Sponsoring Run, cultural trips, and anniversary events, including the 60th anniversary in 2023, reflect the school’s focus on collaboration and shared values. The community regularly supports charitable initiatives, such as long-term contributions to the Sri Sangwan School in Khon Kaen.
The PTA at RIS Swiss Section is active in organising events that connect families and strengthen school spirit. Activities include family gatherings, cultural celebrations, and support for school festivals and concerts. The PTA also assists with fundraising initiatives, such as those that contribute to the school’s longstanding partnership with the Sri Sangwan School. Members often help coordinate logistics during school events, ensuring smooth participation from both parents and students. The PTA serves as a bridge between families and school staff, fostering dialogue and collaboration. Through its activities, it plays a central role in maintaining the school’s family-like atmosphere.
