Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Shrewsbury International School Bangkok – Riverside was founded in 2003 in partnership with its UK sister school and is governed by a Board of Governors representing both British and Thai interests. It opened as a day school campus on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, providing education from Early Years 1 through Year 13. Over time, the school has expanded in size and facilities to accommodate approximately 1,900–2,000 students from around 40 nationalities

Community

Community life at Riverside includes events like the annual International Day, Songkran festival, and seasonal fairs (e.g. Christmas market), hosted alongside regular news and event stories on the school website. The House system, which assigns each student to one of six Houses named after Nobel Peace Prize laureates, promotes participation in inter-house sporting, cultural, and academic activities.

Parent-Teacher Association

While the school website does not detail formal PTA leadership or constitution, it references family-focused events such as second-hand uniform sales, seasonal fairs, and coffee mornings for new parents, which involve active parent participation and collaboration with staff. Parent engagement is evident during orientation evenings, classroom visits, and informal volunteer support at school functions. Though not named PTA, these initiatives serve the same function of fostering community connection.
