Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Students at St. Stephen’s receive Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education, delivered weekly as part of the formal curriculum in both Primary and Secondary years. PSHE lessons cover:

Mental health awareness
Friendship skills
Digital safety
Healthy lifestyle choices
Emotional regulation

These are reinforced by school-wide initiatives like anti-bullying campaigns, community-building activities, and form tutor programmes that promote peer support and respectful communication.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school has a Learning Support Department that works with students who have mild to moderate learning difficulties. This includes in-class assistance, small group withdrawal sessions, and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs). The school also coordinates with parents and external specialists where needed to ensure support is consistent and targeted.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school offers EAL. Support is delivered through focused language lessons and/or integration with regular classroom teaching depending on the student’s proficiency level.

Mental Wellbeing

The school implements a pastoral care framework that ensures students are checked on daily by tutors and classroom teachers. There are regular assemblies focused on wellbeing topics and a strong referral system to involve counsellors when needed. Teachers receive guidance to monitor students’ emotional changes and can initiate individual support when concerns arise.

Safeguarding

St. Stephen’s maintains a detailed Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy aligned with Thai law and UK standards. All staff undergo safer‑recruitment screening and annual training. The school defines abuse broadly (including physical, sexual, emotional, and neglect) and provides clear guidelines for identifying and reporting concerns. Staff use a standardized Expression of Concern form, which is submitted to a Child Protection Officer (CPO). The school ensures confidentiality and secure storage of reports and prohibits unauthorized photography or unsupervised adult‑child contact. Students receive regular age‑appropriate instruction on personal safety and online boundaries, while parents are invited annually to learn about the policy. The policy is reviewed yearly and is overseen by designated safeguarding leads within both Primary and Secondary divisions.
