Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school designs its PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) curriculum to support SEL through regular lessons that celebrate cultural diversity and personal responsibility. Dedicated form tutors and pastoral teams guide students in goal‑setting and reflection using SMART targets. Residential trips and house competitions further develop teamwork, confidence, and communication skills. Traill offers structured pastoral care to ensure students feel valued and supported throughout their school journey.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Traill is not a specialist SEN school, but it provides learning support to students identified with specific needs through initial assessments and a dedicated team. The Gifted & Talented policy explains how differentiated learning plans are used, along with mentorship and enrichment ECAs, to support identified abilities. While core SEN categories are not listed explicitly, Traill’s assessment and pastoral systems enable tailored teaching and tracking for individuals needing additional support. The school also adjusts homework and class activities as needed. Specialist staff are available to support both academic and pastoral needs.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school employs a team of nine specialist teachers to support students with limited English proficiency. These teachers provide targeted language support alongside mainstream lessons to ensure learners can access the curriculum.

Mental Wellbeing

The school promotes mental wellbeing via whole‑school care systems, including form tutors, pastoral teams, and access to school nurses. PSHE lessons address emotional literacy and resilience, reinforced through daily routines and SMART target monitoring. Residential trips and house events help build student self-esteem, confidence and healthy social interaction.

Safeguarding

Traill maintains clear safeguarding policies, overseen by designated staff and regularly reviewed under the British Schools Overseas inspection. Formal procedures are in place for concerns or complaints, with transparent escalation channels up to a review panel if needed. The school ensures staff receive DBS checks and training, while child protection is monitored by the governing body. Facilities such as campus security, safe crossing procedures, and bus GPS tracking contribute to day‑to‑day safety. Communication channels allow parents to report issues quickly and confidentially.
