History

BLIS is located on the East Campus of Bilkent University, high above Ankara, and provides a PK–12 program within the Cambridge curriculum objectives aligned to the Turkish Ministry of Education. Grades PK–K use English immersion education within the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP); Grades 1–4 are bilingual under the PYP framework; Grades 5–8 are English-medium under the Middle Years Programme (MYP); Grades 9–10 are English-medium and follow the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) for a two-year programme; Grades 11–12 are English-medium under the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) with TOK, CAS and the Extended Essay as part of the DP core. BLIS was founded in 1993 and has reinvented itself through name, structure and facilities while retaining the founder's vision and mission, Prof. İhsan Doğramacı. Students must satisfy Turkish MOE requirements and IB DP requirements to be awarded a High School diploma, and the programme emphasizes a DP core that includes TOK, CAS and the EE. The Bilkent tradition of altruism and humanitarianism is reflected in the school community, with students volunteering on local, national and international projects and parents fundraising to build village libraries and support service projects.

BLIS is a proud member of the Bilkent Family, located on the hills of Bilkent University in Ankara. Parents contribute by raising funds to construct school libraries in villages and to support service projects throughout the school.

Parent-Teacher Association

The PTA is BLIS's Parent-Teacher Association, a community-driven organization dedicated to supporting the education and well-being of BLIS students. It features News & Events to share activities and updates. A PTA Organization is described as a formal body of parents, teachers and staff that facilitates parental participation in the school.
