Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

KCIS Kampala Community International School was established to provide a truly international education at an affordable price in Kampala. It has grown to serve a diverse community and is a popular first choice of school due to its individual attention, strong academic standards, wide opportunities and friendly community. The school follows the UK's English National Curriculum (ENC), adapted to reflect its international community in Uganda. KCIS operates six academic years (Year 1 to Year 6), with class placement by date of birth at the start of the school year (1 September). It is inspected under the British Schools Overseas framework, with the most recent inspection carried out by PENTA International.

Community

KCIS hosts a wide range of school community events throughout the year and encourages active parent participation in school life. Events include a School Picnic, Parent Teacher Meetings, Student Led Conferences, Sports Day, Celebration of Learning, Movie Night, International Day, School Concerts, Earth Day and Spirit Week. These events showcase student work and deepen family engagement with the school.

Parent-Teacher Association

Parent Community Council (PCC) is a group of parents across all year groups who represent the parent community. The PCC supports the school with ideas, feedback, event organization and fundraising initiatives throughout the school year. KCIS describes education as a partnership with families and communicates through weekly newsletters, photos, class WhatsApp groups, blogs, phone calls home, student logs, and parent meetings. Parent workshops, reflection sheets, and social events are part of regular family engagement. Parents also help organise and participate in school events through the PCC. These structures facilitate ongoing parent involvement in governance and school life.
