GEMS Royal Dubai School opened as a primary school in September 2005. It operates within the GEMS Education network, which is led by founder Sunny Varkey. The school began expanding beyond the primary years, with Year 7 launched in August 2024 and Year 8 admissions planned for 2025-26 as part of its secondary expansion, including a new secondary campus opening in summer 2026. The school has been rated Outstanding by British Schools Overseas and Very Good by KHDA. In 2025, the school was named GEMS School of the Year.
GEMS Royal Dubai School has a family-focused, international community drawing students from more than 40 nationalities. The school emphasises strong home–school partnerships and a culture of high performance that supports student development. Community events include performing arts, such as a Dubai Opera gala performance by students in June 2025, and the school has earned recognition within the GEMS network for its achievements, including the GEMS School of the Year 2025 award.
Friends of GEMS Royal Dubai School (FORDS) is the school's Parent Association. FORDS meets monthly and its volunteers plan, support, and evaluate school events to strengthen the community. It coordinates a range of events including National Day, International Day, Mother's Day, Christmas decorations, a Winter Carnival, and charity initiatives. The association maintains an open-door policy and encourages broad parent involvement. Shatha Bin Arab serves as Chair of FORDS.
