Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Gulf Asian English School promotes positive mental health and wellbeing for the whole school community, including children, staff, parents and carers, and treats mental health as integral to overall health. The school recognises that a child's mental health affects learning and achievement and acknowledges ups and downs in students' school lives. The wellbeing policy describes how emotional needs are supported for all stakeholders. Relationships between teachers, students and parents are grounded in openness, respect and listening, with channels for parent-teacher communication and involvement. A dedicated wellbeing team, including a School Doctor and Nurse, runs health campaigns and coordinates with the School Counselor to identify students who need counselling. Staff CPD supports wellbeing, and wellbeing is central to school planning and practice.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The policies include a SEND and Inclusion Policy, with inclusion as a core principle and procedures for addressing students' needs. Staff are familiar with these policies and procedures, and the school outlines how inclusive practice will be implemented. The wellbeing policy references SEND and Inclusion as part of the policy framework and notes a system for gathering information on student needs and confidentiality. A CPD plan supports staff training to promote wellbeing and inclusive practice.

Mental Wellbeing

The school aims to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for the whole school community and recognises mental health as essential to wellbeing and to learning and achievement. The policy explains that all stakeholders' emotional needs are supported and that the school provides campaigns and education through the School Clinic. The School Doctor and Nurse run health campaigns and the clinic coordinates with the School Counselor to identify students who show signs of concern and to offer counselling as needed. A wellbeing team monitors the policy and a CPD plan ensures teachers have training to promote wellbeing. The school fosters a safe, supportive climate that connects wellbeing with the learning environment.

Safeguarding

Gulf Asian English School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and staff, including their mental health and emotional wellbeing, and expects all staff to share this commitment. Pupils should feel safe, healthy, and able to contribute, and the school provides a support team for handling child protection and welfare concerns. Senior leadership ensures safeguarding procedures are followed on a day-to-day basis, and parents may approach the support team professionals if they have concerns. The policy includes confidentiality and information-sharing guidelines, and a comprehensive CPD plan trains staff in safeguarding and related procedures.
