Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The school was established in 1972 as the Ecole des Socie9te9s Fran8aises, an initiative of the Socie9te9 des Pe9troles. In 1982 it was renamed Lyce9e Louis Massignon in honour of the French Islam scholar Louis Massignon. The current campus opened in 1980 after a land swap facilitated by the French ambassador to the UAE; since 1992, the school has been managed by AEFE, the French government agency for education abroad. A major campus expansion opened in 2012 to accommodate growth, and in February 2024 the school was accredited to the UNESCO Associated Schools Network. Since 2023, leadership has been Anne-Sophie Gouix as headmistress and Youcef Benhamou as co-headmaster.

Community

The Lyce9e Louis Massignon hosts a multilingual, international community drawn from dozens of nationalities. The British International Section operates from CP to Terminale, with a British Section pathway to the French International Baccalaureate launching in 2025. Community life is enriched by intercultural events such as the May of Languages, Shakespeare Day, and Franco-German language exchanges with GISAD, the German International School Abu Dhabi. A broad programme of extracurricular activities covers sport, arts, and clubs for all levels, from nursery to final year.

Parent-Teacher Association

CAPE stands for Comité Autonome des Parents de9le8ves (Autonomous Parents' Committee). It is a non-profit association independent of political, religious or union movements, created in 2020 to represent the parents of students from nursery through terminale. Its missions include maintaining a bridge of communication between teachers, administration and parents; involving all parents in their children s schooling and in the future of the school; supporting families
0requests to ensure inclusive and caring schooling; organizing after-school activities and various extracurricular events to bring families together with the school administration outside classroom hours; and providing a Parents
0Guide for families.
