Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Mamoura British Academy integrates social and emotional learning (SEL) through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, which addresses students' social and emotional well-being as part of its framework. The school's leadership emphasises pastoral wellbeing and social and emotional development as a priority for all students. The principal's message highlights a focus on developing interpersonal skills, confidence, cooperation, leadership, and social responsibility alongside academics. Safeguarding and welfare policies reinforce the central aim of student well-being within a safe learning environment.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Mamoura British Academy provides SEN support overseen by an Inclusion Director who is responsible for SEN, EAL and Gifted & Talented (G&T) provisions. The school maintains an inclusion leadership structure to manage SEN, EAL and G&T, indicating formal SEN and inclusion processes. The specific kinds of SEN supported are not publicly disclosed. Gifted and Talented provision is explicitly part of the inclusion framework.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school has an EAL provision overseen by the Inclusion Director, with an EAL Lead Teacher responsible for EAL across the school. An EAL lead role is explicitly advertised, indicating formal EAL leadership and programme oversight. External tools such as FlashAcademy® are used to support EAL learners and language development. This structure suggests an explicit and ongoing EAL programme within the inclusion framework.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is addressed through the IB Primary Years Programme's emphasis on social and emotional well-being as part of its learning framework. Pastoral care and a dedicated pastoral leadership tier support students' wellbeing and social-emotional development. The school's safeguarding and welfare emphasis further reinforces mental wellbeing by prioritising safe, supportive environments for students. The school also communicates a focus on wellbeing and safe relationships through its leadership and pastoral structures.

Safeguarding

The safeguarding policy states that children have the right to feel safe and to be protected from abuse and neglect. Safeguarding is a collective responsibility shared by all staff and members of the school community, with designated safeguarding responsibilities and roles. The policy emphasises the use of trusted adults and clear reporting procedures for safeguarding concerns. The policy was issued in June 2025 and will be reviewed in 2026, reinforcing ongoing safeguarding commitments.
