Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school uses tutorials with small groups or individuals, paired with dynamic feedback and weekly Personal Tutoring to guide each student. The wider curriculum includes regular Leadership sessions to prepare students for their future careers and a variety of student-led societies. The tutorial method fosters confidence, responsibility, and independence in students. Students have access to tutors and academic mentors through Greene's Online, which is available at any time. Learning is designed to support collaboration, critical thinking, and self-directed study.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Greene's offers an inclusive programme of study and does not discriminate against students with SEN or disabilities. The college identifies students with special educational needs and disabilities and ensures their needs are met. The SENCo may assess and specify elements of provision and involve outside agencies when appropriate. On onboarding, the college discusses short-term targets, teaching strategies, and the provision to be put in place, and may arrange referrals for specialist assessments. The Principal and Academic Director are responsible for provision; parents are informed of their child's needs and there is ongoing communication. The admissions and equal opportunities policies provide guidance for inclusion.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Greene's welcomes international students and requires sufficient English language competence. Normally students should have been educated in English for at least two years before joining, or achieve an IELTS score of 5.5. English proficiency is assessed as part of the admissions process.

Mental Wellbeing

Greene's recognises the strains study can place on students' mental health. The College offers structured and ad hoc counselling sessions through the Mental Health Lead. Personal Tutors and staff may refer students for access to these sessions, and parents may request contact as needed. This provision provides frontline guidance for studies and is not a substitute for professional counselling or psychiatric services.

Safeguarding

Greene's has a Designated Safeguarding Lead (the Academic Director, Grant Connor) and deputies who hold current safeguarding training. New staff receive safeguarding induction, and safeguarding training is updated at least every three years. The College follows procedures to report concerns to the Oxfordshire Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) and maintains confidential records. The safeguarding policy covers safeguarding in online settings, allegations against staff, and whistleblowing. The policy was adopted in August 2025 and will be reviewed in August 2026.
