Internships are offered as part of the STEM or STEAM Diploma Endorsement. AIS also provides Global and Experiential Learning and participation in Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), beyond the regular curriculum. These opportunities extend learning beyond the classroom and align with the International Baccalaureate framework.
After School Music is a highly regarded independent music lessons program offered outside the regular school day, with lessons in cello, piano, harp, guitar, flute, clarinet, vocal training and more. Instruction is provided by qualified and experienced music instructors for all interested students, and private lessons are encouraged for members of instrumental ensembles and bands. Members of Secondary School ensembles and Primary School bands and strings are encouraged to take private instruction to maximize learning.
Heritage Languages are offered after school for AIS and non-AIS students from 5K to Grade 5, fostering home languages not in the AIS curriculum. The 2022-23 offerings include Arabic, Dutch, Portuguese, Korean, Hindi, Russian, Turkish and Farsi. After-school Language Clubs support learning in Chinese, English, French, German and Spanish, with activities such as cooking, crafting, painting and science experiments taught in those languages. Academic language support clubs are offered weekly.
After school enrichment activities in primary school include Playball, Ballet, Yoga, LEGO, Chess, Capoeira, Coding, Arts & Engineering, Magic, Creative Design, Sewing and more. During the school year, AIS also runs Math Club, AIS Junior Eagles Athletics, and Language Activity Clubs to broaden skills and friendships beyond the classroom. Registration for after school enrichment occurs at the start of the fall, winter and spring sessions.
AIS provides Global and Experiential Learning that expands learning beyond the classroom. Students travel to key sites in the US, such as Washington DC, to support academic and cultural development, and overseas trips support specific subjects or activities such as Peru for service and Costa Rica for Spanish.
AISx Flexible Schedule allows students in grades 6-12 to pursue their passions in sports, arts, or other fields without compromising academic rigor. The AISx team partners with families to design a schedule and curriculum that meets students goals—both in and outside of the classroom. Student Ambassadors in the Upper School support admissions events and develop leadership skills, embodying AIS's motto to develop courageous leaders who shape their world for the better.
Athletics offers a wide variety of sports for boys and girls during each season, with coaches promoting sportsmanship and character development. In addition to athletics programs, students in Grades 7-10 take regular Physical Health Education classes as part of the IB curriculum. Upper School teams participate in GHSA with the goal of competing for state championships.
Atlanta International School is a private, nonprofit IB World School serving 3K through Grade 12 with campuses in Buckhead and Sandy Springs. The school offers the full IB continuum (PYP, MYP, DP) and the Career-related Programme, alongside full and dual-immersion language initiatives to develop multilingual proficiency. AISx Flexible Schedule supports Grades 6–12 with in-person or remote options while maintaining IB coursework. Language study includes Chinese, French, German and Spanish, with English as an Additional Language support and heritage language offerings. The Sandy Springs campus, opened in 2024, features Mouratoglou Tennis Academy Atlanta, a riverfront site, residential facilities, and a Great Hall, River House, and a quad. It houses four tennis courts and extensive outdoor recreation. The school emphasizes hands-on learning through Makerspaces, science labs, design studios and an art loft, with a library. The program includes Global and Experiential Learning and Creativity, Activity, Service as part of the IB framework.
