Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Atlanta International School was founded in 1984 by local families and leaders who wanted a different private school in Atlanta. The first students started in 1985, and the first class of 10 seniors graduated in 1992. The school is a private, non-profit, international IB World School for 3K through Grade 12, offering full and dual-immersion language programs. There are now 1350 students enrolled at AIS.

Community

The AIS community is intercultural and intentionally inclusive, with families, students, faculty and staff representing more than 90 nationalities and over 60 languages. Languages for all and the International Baccalaureate curriculum form the foundation of AIS's learning environment. AIS maintains local connections through partnerships with institutions such as the High Museum, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Horizons Atlanta, and Garden Hills Elementary. The AIS Parent Organization is a vibrant, welcoming group; every AIS family is automatically a member and can participate in a wide range of clubs, committees and flagship events, including Worldfest.

Parent-Teacher Association

The AIS Parent Organization (PO) is a key part of our vibrant, international school community. The PO offers an extensive range of committees, clubs and events that promote belonging and involvement for all AIS families. Every AIS parent and guardian is automatically a member of the PO. Flagship events include Worldfest, and the PO supports programs, meetups and cultural activities throughout the year. Culture clubs include Amigos Hispanic Culture Club, Asian Culture Club, Ensemble French Culture Club, Deutsch Connection German Culture Club, Harambee, and multiple PO committees such as Ambassador, Arts Boosters, Learning Differentiation, Parent Programs, PS STEAM Team, Sports Boosters, SS STEAM Team, Teacher Appreciation Committee, Wellness Club, and Worldfest.
