Spanish-English bilingual curriculum is taught across all grades from Pre-Kinder through 8th Grade. The IB framework is delivered from Preschool through 8th Grade, with inquiry-based learning and a focus on global citizenship. Bilingualism leads to biliteracy; students read, write, and think in both English and Spanish. Global citizenship is woven into daily learning experiences.
The school provides Spanish-English bilingual education for students from Pre-Kinder through 8th grade. Students learn in Spanish and English within the International Baccalaureate framework. Dual-language immersion occurs daily across all grades, complemented by the Accelerated Spanish Program for students not yet at grade-level Spanish. Graduates become biliterate, reading, writing, and thinking in both English and Spanish.
Dual-language immersion happens every day in Spanish and English for all grades. The Accelerated Spanish Program (ASP) supports Grades 1–8 students who are not yet at grade-level Spanish. In Preschool and TK, Spanish immersion begins from day one, with classroom activities conducted in Spanish and increasing use of English over time. Native Spanish speakers benefit from home-language development, reinforcing bilingualism.
Escuela Bilingüe Internacional is an independent IB World School serving students ages 3 to 14 with a bilingual program across PK-8. The school operates on two campuses: Alcatraz Avenue in Oakland (PK-1) and San Pablo Avenue in Emeryville (2-8). Opened in 2006, it is the West Coast's only Spanish-English bilingual IB World School offering both the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The language model begins with full immersion in the early years and progresses to a balanced bilingual approach through middle school, with an Accelerated Spanish Program (ASP) to support Grades 2-8 with little or no prior Spanish. Lead teachers are native or near-native Spanish speakers from international backgrounds. The IB framework guides inquiry-based learning, global citizenship, and biliteracy, preparing graduates for top high schools and continued success. Facilities include Alcatraz PK-1 and San Pablo 2-8 campuses with libraries, arts spaces, music and PE facilities.
