English language development is integrated across all classes; all courses are designed to help students read, write, and speak English fluently while preparing them for graduation, college, and work. FIHS has students from almost 40 countries and more than 20 languages, with Spanish and Mandarin as the two most prominent language groups. English Language Learner information is provided for families, including ELL Info and ELL Parent videos in multiple languages. ELL Parent videos are available in languages such as Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, English, French, Haitian-Creole, Mandarin, Spanish, and Urdu.
Lu Zeng is the school counselor. A social worker is on staff to support students' wellbeing. Michele Debono is the College Counselor & Internship Coordinator who supports college readiness and internships. Flushing International High School is in Flushing, New York, serving grades 9–12. It belongs to the Internationals Network and follows the Internationals Approach, built on five core principles to support immigrant and multilingual learners. A centerpiece is the Internship Institute, which lets students explore a career area, develop workplace skills, apply new knowledge, and strengthen English and native-language abilities through real-world experience. Founded in 2004, FIHS serves recent immigrants and emphasizes bilingual language growth alongside academic development. The school houses 440 students from 40 countries who speak over 20 languages. The academic program is anchored in the American curriculum, with integrated language learning and opportunities for fieldwork and community engagement. Distinctive features include a strong internship program in 11th grade, an Arts & PE program with Drama and Visual Arts, and a DREAM TEAM that supports immigrant issues and scholarships for students. Sports include Volleyball, Soccer, Badminton, Basketball, and Handball.
