Languages taught are English and French across programs. In the International Program, the majority of instruction is in English with intensive French instruction; two levels of French language acquisition (FLL and AFLL) are offered, and students progress toward Native French. In the French-American Program, the majority of instruction is in French with intensive English instruction, and English language learners (ELL) and Native English options are provided as needed. The English curriculum is developed by FASNY and the French curriculum is mandated by the French Ministry of Education.
Two programs, the French-American Program and the International Program, operate from grade 1. In Lower School, students participate in a bilingual daily program with instruction in both French and English. The French-American Program is taught mostly in French with intensive English instruction, while the International Program is taught mostly in English with intensive French instruction. The English curriculum is developed by the School, and the French curriculum is mandated by the French Ministry of Education.
Preschool is a French immersion program with language proportions: Nursery 80% French / 20% English, and Pre-K & Kindergarten 70% French / 30% English. The International Program provides an immersive bilingual environment that supports French language acquisition, with most instruction in English and intensive French instruction. Immersion-like features also support French language development in the Lower School.
The French-American School of New York (FASNY) Harbor Campus provides a bilingual education for students in grades 9 through 12. As the only school in the New York metropolitan area authorized to offer both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and the French Baccalaureate (including the BFI), it allows families to choose the academic pathway that best suits their child's future goals. Students benefit from a 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio, ensuring personalized attention within a multicultural community representing over 50 nationalities. The Harbor Campus features specialized facilities including science laboratories and dedicated spaces for robotics and AI integration. A signature initiative at FASNY is the "Visible Learning" program, which emphasizes student agency by teaching pupils to evaluate their own progress and understand the specific criteria for success. All graduates earn a New York State high school diploma alongside their chosen international certification, preparing them for admission to universities worldwide.
