Governance and Ownership

Two administrative bodies govern Genesee Academy: The School Board (seven members, four elected and three appointed by the Central Board of the Flint Islamic Center) and the School Administration (principal and vice principal; the principal has overriding authority). An IB Program Leadership Team focuses on implementing the IB‑MYP program. The school complex is attached to the Flint Islamic Center.
Fees

Annual tuition at Genesee Academy ranges from USD 5,900 to USD 6,955 for 2026/27.

Application fees

- Non‑refundable application fee: USD 50 per student.
- Summer program application (when offered) uses a separate schedule: USD 50 per child if submitted by the early deadline, USD 75 per child if submitted after the early deadline.

Tuition fees (annual and per‑installment examples)

- Typical full‑time annual tuition (2026/27 profiles reported by independent school directories): approximately USD 5,900 per year; some third‑party listings report an alternate figure of USD 6,955 for the highest grade levels.

- Because the school offers multiple payment plans, here are worked examples using an annual tuition of USD 5,900:
- Plan A — single annual payment: USD 5,900 per year.
- Plan B — two semiannual installments: USD 2,950 per installment.
- Plan C — four installments: USD 1,475 per installment (payments due early Sep, Nov, Jan, Mar under the four‑installment option).
- Plan D — monthly automatic bank withdrawals: amount equals the annual tuition divided by the number of scheduled monthly withdrawals; example calculations: if withdrawn over 9 months (typical Sep–May window) the payment would be about USD 655.56/month; if withdrawn over 10 months the payment would be USD 590/month. The school provides a bank‑draft agreement for Plan D.

- Note on variation by grade: independent school listings show small differences in reported figures between grade levels; families should expect that tuition may vary by program (Early Learning Center vs elementary vs high school) and by any financial aid, sibling or employee discounts.

Billing schedule and payment terms

- Available payment plans: Plan A (one installment/year), Plan B (two semiannual installments — due 1st day of school and first week of January), Plan C (four installments — due early Sep, Nov, Jan, Mar), Plan D (monthly automatic bank withdrawals, withdrawals taken on the 1st of each month with a bank draft agreement). The first tuition payment and the materials fee are due at registration; the last payment for the school year is due May 1. Returned checks incur bank service charges.

- Returned‑check and delinquency policy: returned checks are subject to a bank service charge (the handbook notes a $25 returned‑check service charge); delinquent accounts can result in exam exclusion, withholding of records, suspension or expulsion and referral to a collection agency after extended delinquency.

Boarding fees

- Boarding is not applicable. Genesee Academy operates as a day school (pre‑K through grade 12 programs and an Early Learning Center); there are no boarding fees.

Other costs and common additional fees

- Materials fee / advance fee: USD 200 per student is collected as an advance payment and is applied toward materials; this fee becomes non‑refundable after the first day of school.

- Registration / enrollment fees: a registration/enrollment fee is required at enrollment and may change year to year; the handbook references payment of a registration fee at enrollment.

- Uniforms: a school uniform policy is in effect and families are responsible for purchasing required uniform items. The uniform policy and lists of required items are provided as part of school documents. Uniform costs are paid by families.

- Transportation: bussing/transportation fees are not included in tuition; families are responsible for any private or public transport arrangements and related costs.

- Meal ordering and lunches: hot‑lunch orders are handled through the PTO system and require online payment by credit card for lunch orders.

- Summer program and activity fees: summer program enrolment and some extracurricular activities use separate fee schedules (examples: summer program tuition, activity fees, testing fees). The summer program materials list an example testing fee (USD 100) and show the summer application fee structure.

- Testing, exam and extracurricular charges: standardized testing, external examination fees, field trips, specialized program fees, technology or supply fees and optional course fees may be billed separately. The handbook notes standardized tests and that parents fund lost/damaged books and reorders.

Discounts and financial aid

- Sibling discount: a 10% tuition discount is applied to each additional sibling who attends the school; the discount is applied to the sibling with the higher tuition.

- Employee subsidy: full‑time employees receive a tuition subsidy (employee handbook notes a 40% subsidy of normal tuition for full‑time employee children; this does not apply to application, enrollment, or material fees).

- Limited scholarships and financial aid are available through school processes and external scholarship committees; families are responsible for ensuring scholarship funds are transferred to the school in a timely manner.

Refund information

- Deposit and materials fee refund rules: the USD 200 advance payment applied toward materials becomes non‑refundable after the first day of school.

- Tuition refund deadlines: there is no refund after October 31; parents remain responsible for full tuition for the school year if a student is withdrawn, expelled, or absent for illness after that date. A partial refund may be made only if a written request is submitted on or before October 31. All families must sign a tuition contract at enrollment that affirms these terms.

Fee payment options and accepted methods

- Automatic bank draft (preferred for monthly Plan D) using a bank‑draft agreement.
- Postdated checks for families not using automatic withdrawals (postdated checks are requested for all months at the start of the school year).
- Cash, money order or cashier's check for amounts required when returned checks cannot be replaced; returned checks may trigger a returned‑check fee and replacement with cash/money order if necessary.
- Credit‑card payment is required for PTO hot‑lunch ordering; credit‑card acceptance for general tuition is not specified in the public tuition and handbook materials.

Practical notes for families

- The school offers multiple payment plans to suit family needs; the first tuition installment and the materials fee are due at registration and the final payment is due by May 1 in the standard schedule. Returned checks and delinquent accounts have explicit penalties and consequences. A sibling discount, employee subsidy and limited scholarships are available under defined rules. For summer programs and optional activities there are separate, additional fees.

- The figures for annual tuition published by independent school directories for 2026/27 are reported as approximately USD 5,900 (one commonly quoted figure) with at least one directory listing USD 6,955 for the highest grades; families should use the payment‑plan examples above to estimate per‑installment amounts based on the annual tuition figure that applies to their child.
