Academics

Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles – Kabbaz High School teaches French Curriculum, American Curriculum, Advanced Placement (AP) for students aged 2 to 18.

Curriculum

From junior preschool through 1st grade, all students follow a bilingual immersion curriculum. Starting in 2nd grade, Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles offers two paths: French School Program (FSP) or International School Program (ISP). In the French Language Section, students may pursue the traditional French Baccalaureate or the French-American Baccalaureate (FAB); all classes are taught in French with the exception of the English course. The English Language Section leads to an American high school diploma, with AP courses available in both sections. AP courses include Biology, Economics, Physics, Chemistry and Calculus, and many universities grant advanced credit for AP coursework; AP Capstone is also offered. In the 11th–12th grades, French-language students may specialize in science and mathematics, and the program blends European and American approaches to education.

Student Teacher Ratio

Small class sizes are a hallmark: 10-15 students in the early grades and up to about 25 in high school on average; there are over 125 teachers for roughly 700 students.

Exam Results

AP courses and FAB are offered in both sections; the FAB combines French and American elements including the French Baccalaureate or FAB pathway. AP courses are offered in Biology, Economics, Physics, Chemistry and Calculus, and many universities grant advanced credit for AP courses. All graduates receive the U.S. High School Diploma and have access to college counseling; 98% of graduates matriculate to U.S. universities, with many attending Ivy League and UC schools.

Higher Education Progression

Graduates matriculate to U.S. universities at a high rate (about 98%), with many attending Ivy League and UC schools, supported by a full-time college counselor. Graduates also attend universities around the world.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Academic support classes are available in French, English, and Math. These sessions are provided at no additional cost and occur before or after school for students identified with needs. A Tutoring Assessment Policy governs tutoring options and requires follow-up steps; tutoring should not be conducted by teachers tutoring their own students. The school maintains an Approved Tutor List to guide tutoring arrangements.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school offers an English language program (ISP) and a French language program (FSP). No knowledge of French is required to enroll. ISP and FSP provide breadth and depth through dual language education in a combined European and North American framework.
