Introduction

Lexington Elementary is an International Baccalaureate World School serving students from Transitional Kindergarten through fifth grade, ages 3 to 11. The campus offers the IB Primary Years Program in conjunction with the California Common Core standards, and Lexington was authorized to deliver the PYP in 2007, the first public IB school in Northern California. The school hosts a Transitional Kindergarten IB Early Years program as Lexington's TK hub. The curriculum emphasizes inquiry and transdisciplinary units organized under themes such as Who We Are and How the World Works. Instruction is delivered in English with a TK-5 Spanish FLES program to build multilingual capabilities. In 2014 the campus was rebuilt, providing large modern classrooms, a library, Life Lab and Garden, outdoor classrooms, and a multipurpose room for theater. Signature offerings include an annual theater production, a robust arts program, and a Green Team with garden-based learning. A supportive community guides learners.

Billing schedule and payment terms

- School meal accounts: Meal purchases and any a la carte/second-meal charges are posted per purchase; online deposits to meal accounts are processed per transaction and a payment-processing fee applies to card deposits. Refund information

- Meal-account refunds: Refunds for cafeteria account balances (for example when closing an account for a departing student) are available by request through the district Child Nutrition contact; a refund request must be submitted to the Child Nutrition office as directed by the district. Card-processing fees charged by the payment vendor apply to deposits and are separate from meal-account balances.

- Clubhouse / LGS Recreation refunds and cancellations: Clubhouse registration and program cancellations, refunds or credits are governed by LGS Recreation registration policy and the program's terms (a registration fee is charged at enrollment). Families should follow the LGS Recreation program terms for requests related to registration cancellations or program refunds. Example registration fees and program billing terms are published on the LGS Recreation pricing sheet.

Fee payment options and how payments are made

- School meals: Online deposits to meal accounts are accepted through the district's meal payment portal (Titan / LINQ Connect). Payments by debit card or VISA/MasterCard credit card are accepted online; a per-transaction processing fee is added to online deposits. The meal payment portal also allows account balance checks, automatic recurring payments, and low-balance alerts. Cash or check handling is managed through school procedures when allowed, but the district uses the online portal for card payments.

- Clubhouse and after-school programs: Clubhouse fees are billed by LGS Recreation and payments for those programs are made to LGS Recreation according to their registration and billing process. The LGS Recreation pricing sheet lists monthly fees, registration fee amounts, and contact details for registration and account questions.

- District enrollment and administrative items: Registration and enrollment forms are completed through the LGUSD online registration and PowerSchool Parent Portal; typical administrative transactions related to enrollment use the district's online systems. There is no separate application fee for neighborhood student registration.

Academics

Lexington Elementary School teaches IB (PYP), American Curriculum for students aged 3 to 11.

Curriculum

Lexington Elementary offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) for TK–5. Lexington was authorized to deliver the PYP in 2007, becoming the first public school in Northern California to offer it. The PYP uses guided inquiry with units organized under six transdisciplinary themes: Who We Are; Where We Are in Place and Time; How We Express Ourselves; How We Organize Ourselves; How the World Works; Sharing the Planet. The curriculum integrates California Common Core State Standards with the PYP framework. A Transitional Kindergarten (TK) IB Early Years program is offered, with Lexington serving as LGUSD's TK hub. Spanish is taught as a Foreign Language in the Elementary School (FLES) program for TK–5, with weekly exposure, and the Pathways to Multilingualism initiative supports language goals for families.

Exam Results

CAASPP results show ELA (All Students) for 2022-23: 28.30% exceeded standard, 66.04% at or near standard, and 5.66% below. CAASPP results show Math (All Students) for 2022-23: 22.64% exceeded standard, 71.70% at or near standard, and 5.66% below. The California School Dashboard (2023) indicates All Students performed 57.5 points above standard overall, with a very low suspension rate (0.0%), while Chronic Absenteeism is identified as a concern.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Lexington's IB Primary Years Program integrates social and emotional learning through the Who We Are unit, which centers on physical, emotional, and spiritual health and well-being. The program emphasizes relationships, belonging, and learning to understand and manage one's own needs and the needs of others. The curriculum explores personal identity, social and emotional characteristics, and the roles individuals play within communities. Through these inquiries, students develop social awareness, empathy, and collaborative skills as part of the IB framework. The content supports students' social and emotional growth within a holistic IB education.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Pathways to Multilingualism supports development of home languages as a key part of becoming a global citizen. Lexington offers three language pathways: Additional Language(s), Home Language, and Pathway to Multiliteracy Award, culminating in formal recognition. The TK-5 “Personal Progress Award for Additional Language(s)” extends learning of Spanish or another language at home. The TK-5 “Personal Progress Award for Home Language” encourages practice of home language(s) at home. The 5th-grade “Pathway to Multiliteracy Award” is the most rigorous, awarding a special promotion certificate and a Santa Clara County stamp, with the aim of supporting pursuit of the California Seal of Biliteracy in high school. Pathway applications and resources are available to interested students and families in the early fall, and there is background material explaining the rationale and purpose.

Mental Wellbeing

The Programme of Inquiry includes a focus on mental well-being, with an emphasis on physical, emotional, and spiritual health. A balanced lifestyle contributes to our mental and physical well-being. The units explore the mind–body connection and how choices affect well-being. Students learn about their own needs and the needs of others, supporting mental well-being within relationships and communities. The IB framework fosters perspective-taking, resilience, and social-emotional growth as part of students' learning.

Safeguarding

The Los Gatos Union School District is dedicated to providing a safe educational environment for all students, staff, parents, and visitors at Lexington and partner sites. The Emergency Plan uses Incident Command System (ICS) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) protocols that meet local, state, and federal guidelines. Each site has a site-specific safety plan aligned with district-wide procedures. Updated Safety Plans for LGUSD, including Lexington School, are provided and regularly reviewed. The safety framework includes procedures for emergencies and contact points to ensure rapid, coordinated responses.
