Founded in 1995 by a small group of French and American families, the Lycée Français de Chicago began as an international school with fewer than 150 students. It has grown to include more than 500 families and almost 800 students. Bittersweet Campus served as the school's campus from 1995 through 2014, and Wilson Campus opened in 2015. The school offers inclusive, multilingual, pluricultural education with immersion-based curricula, providing both the French Baccalaureate and the International Baccalaureate programs.
The Lycée Français de Chicago is known for its strong programming, accomplished alumni, dedicated families, and a welcoming neighborhood. The community includes ongoing opportunities to get involved through the Parent Association, alumni networks, volunteer opportunities and a variety of events. French for All Ages is part of the community offerings.
Creating a community of families, the Parent Association strengthens ties among LFC families through networking, events, and committees, and acts as a voice for parents to school leadership. The PA fosters connections among French, American and international cultures, contributing to the vitality and reputation of the Lycée in Chicago. It is entirely volunteer-driven and represents every family in the school, inviting parents to take an active role in projects and events. Volunteers help organize school activities and support daily life at the school. The PA runs or supports Community Events, including a fall New Family Welcoming Luncheon, the Lycée French Market in November, wine tastings, and a year-end Kermesse. It also includes a DEI Committee, a New Family Welcoming Committee, Support for Host Families, Learning Differences, and is a member of the Federation of Parent Associations of French Education Abroad (FAPEE).
