History

St. Edmund Parish sponsored a high school since the Great Depression, opening on February 2, 1932 as St. Edmund Academy, a two-year high school for girls. It became St. Edmund Commercial High School in 1936 and expanded to a four-year program in 1962, renamed St. Edmund High School and accredited by Middle States. A new high school building began construction in 1960 and opened in September 1962, with the first graduating class in June 1964. In 1994 it was renamed St. Edmund Preparatory High School, an independent, coeducational institution governed by a Board of Trustees; administration originally belonged to the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, with governance transferring to the Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1986, and lay leadership beginning in 1995. A Library & Media Center Wing opened in 2008 following a 2007 groundbreaking, and the school joined the International Baccalaureate World School program in 2008, with IB courses beginning in 2009.

Grade 9 – General admission: Eighth grade students seeking admission to St. Edmund Prep must take the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools (TACHS) with St. Edmund Prep listed as a high school option (SEP TACHS Code 008). Strong preference is given to students who designate SEP as their first choice. They must complete the online Application for Admission, provide an official transcript by the December date prescribed by the Diocese of Brooklyn, and submit one letter of recommendation. Students who wish to apply for a scholarship must complete the Scholarship Application and take the scholarship exam. All admissions materials for the 2027-2028 school year must be submitted by Friday, December 11, 2026. 3.
