Spanish and Chinese are offered as world languages in the Lower School. The Lower School Language Acquisition Program focuses on oral language development and aims to build language skills and cultural understanding. The program is integrated with the IB Program of Inquiry and connects language learning to transdisciplinary units. Teaching uses three proficiency levels—emergent, capable, and proficient—across six phases; most learners begin in Grade 1, entering the Chinese program, with the option for students with prior Chinese knowledge to join Grades 2–4.
Whitby School is an independent, co-educational day school in Greenwich, United States, serving ages 1 to 14. It blends Montessori philosophy in the early years with IB programs in the Middle Years.
