Parent Experience

History

WCA began in the founder's dining room and grew into a well-established Christian school serving the Historic Triangle and surrounding communities. The current 65,000-square-foot facility sits on 43 acres in upper James City County and is surrounded by several sports fields, including soccer, baseball, and field hockey. The school serves K4 through 12th grade and is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) as well as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)/AdvancEd. From its first graduating class in 1987 to thousands of students touched by the program, the core remains that God is our dwelling place.

Community

The WCA community centers on a Christ-centered culture with daily praise and worship and a spiritual center known as HowWeEagle, guiding student life. Student Life includes Extracurriculars and Societies, Visual & Performing Arts, Athletics, and Service Learning, providing clubs, arts, sports, and service opportunities beyond the classroom. The school emphasizes its mission and Seven Pillars—Developing a Christ-centered walk, innovation, communication, wellness, awareness, stewardship, and respect—across campus life. Spiritual life and academic programs are designed to integrate faith with learning, culture, and community involvement.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Parents of WCA (PWCA) is a parents-and-community member organization that lends talents and resources to support the school. PWCA hosts faculty appreciation events such as staff lunches, a traveling coffee cart, and a Christmas gift-card fundraiser. It supports school events with set-up and break-down for concerts, Christmas floats for parades, Fall Festival, and the Last Day of School Field Day. PWCA recruits volunteers for substitute learning facilitators, lunchroom monitors, and room parents, and oversees special initiatives and projects like plantings, photography, and club support. To get involved, parents can fill out the PWCA information form to join. PWCA also maintains an events calendar for ongoing opportunities.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Academic & Intellectual

The school hosts a range of academically oriented extracurriculars. Film and Technology clubs have competed at high levels in C-SPAN contests, and students have explored EcoClub, Lego Robotics, and Mock Trial. A chess club and a chapter of Key Club provide additional academic and scholarly opportunities. Visual Arts are introduced in the Primary Years Program and developed through the Middle Years Program and Diploma years, with depth in the Diploma years. At all grade levels, students experience visual arts, music, and drama taught from a Christian worldview, with emphasis on exploration and instruction. The arts program continues to grow as students engage in new experiences and clubs.

Cultural & Language

The International Program offers two pathways: a full-year program and a short-stay immersion program. The program provides an immersive environment with a homestay option to help international students integrate into American culture and the WCA community. It emphasizes building relationships among students from diverse backgrounds and supporting English language learning. Many short-stay participants later enroll full time at WCA.

Social & Hobbies

Honor societies and the National Honor Society provide additional leadership and peer-connection opportunities. Club offerings evolve with student interest and staff leadership, ensuring an activity mix that complements academics and athletics.

Community & Service

Service Learning engages students in community service through school-coordinated projects and independent initiatives. Lower school students send Christmas cards to the elderly and care packages to soldiers overseas; upper school students rake leaves for mobility-impaired residents, collect socks for retirement home residents, and organize Thanksgiving food drives. Service hours are tracked, and many students exceed the required hours, including involvement with CAS for IB Diploma Program students.
