Lycée Français Alexandre Yersin was founded in 1982, beginning as a French international school serving the expatriate and local communities of Hanoi. Over the years, it has expanded in alignment with the AEFE network, which supports French schools abroad. The school relocated to its purpose-built Long Biên campus in 2018, marking a significant stage in its development. LFAY remains part of the AEFE system and therefore operates under the administrative and pedagogical oversight of the French government. Its growth reflects the broader expansion of French education in Vietnam over the past four decades.
LFAY hosts a variety of cultural and educational events connected to the French national curriculum and AEFE programmes. Activities referenced on the school’s site include resilience awareness days and cultural celebrations linked to the “parcours citoyen” and “parcours d’éducation artistique et culturelle.” The community includes French, Vietnamese, and international families, which contributes to the cultural diversity of school events. While the school shares updates about activities and celebrations, it does not publish a detailed list of annual community events.
The school does not publicly provide information about a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) or any formal parent-led organisation. There are no published references to PTA committees, regular meetings, parent groups, or school–parent collaborative activities. The school also does not list PTA-organised events, volunteering opportunities, or parent engagement programmes. The school does not publicly disclose information regarding a PTA or similar association.

The campus sits on about 2.8 hectares near the Long Biên Bridge and serves approximately 1,120 students from age 3 (petite section / maternelle) through to about age 18 (Terminale). Instruction is primarily in French, following the French national curriculum leading to the French “brevet” and “baccalauréat,” and the school also offers a 2023-onwards international American section. Students may study several languages, including English, German, Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin — and Latin is available in secondary years. The campus includes extensive sports facilities (swimming pool, gymnasium, football/rugby pitch), an auditorium for arts and culture, and a variety of extracurricular and community-service programmes. A school-bus service is offered for commuting. Parents relocating internationally will find a comprehensive French-language education in a stable, multicultural setting.
