SMIS was established in August 2011 in Hanoi, becoming one of the first Montessori networks in Vietnam to apply Montessori education with international standards. It grew from a single campus to a nationwide network with campuses in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ha Long, Thai Binh, and Ho Chi Minh City (including Hanoi sites at Van Phuc, Thuy Khue, Tay Ho Tay, Tam Trinh, and Pham Hung; Hai Phong campuses at Duong Kinh and Luong Khanh Thien; Ho Chi Minh City at An Phu). By 2021 the Sakura Montessori system had expanded to about 12 campuses nationwide and educated thousands of students. The group operates within the Edufit Education System and maintains links with international Montessori bodies, while offering an English-language program based on the US Common Core Standards taught by native-English teachers. International recognition and collaborations with Montessori organizations underpin its growth and practice.
The Sakura Montessori network spans campuses in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ha Long, Thai Binh, and Ho Chi Minh City, creating a broad school community across Vietnam. Community life is supported through campus events and family-friendly programs, with a centralized hub offering News, Events, and Press to keep families informed. Public events include cultural and community activities such as the Mid-Autumn Festival 2024: Trung thu Đoàn Viên – Sẻ chia Nhân Ái, and culture-focused programs like One Moonlight, Many Cultures. The school also hosts parent-focused seminars and workshops to support Montessori parenting, including Online seminars on HighScope and guidance for parenting during key developmental periods, as well as family projects that engage parents and children in shared learning.
There is no publicly described Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) by that name in Sakura Montessori's materials. Instead, parent involvement is fostered through events and parent-focused programming published on the events pages. Examples include cultural events such as the Mid-Autumn Festival 2024: Trung thu Đoàn Viên – Sẻ chia Nhân Ái, and programs like One Moonlight, Many Cultures. The school also offers parent-facing seminars, including an online workshop titled 'Giải mã HighScope – Trẻ chủ động, giáo viên đồng hành' and a session on how to accompany a child during the golden development period. Additional family initiatives include projects such as 'DỰ ÁN: HỘP BÁNH YÊU THƯƠNG – GÓI TRỌN ÂN TÌNH' that involve both students and families in classroom-life activities.
