Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Sedbergh Vietnam – BCIS traces its roots to the Bilingual Canadian International School (BCIS), established to provide a bilingual Canadian education environment in Vietnam. The Canadian International School (CIS) was officially established on March 13, 2009, as the first international school in Vietnam to offer a Canadian curriculum, with the 2009–2010 school year starting at a temporary campus in Phu My Hung and enrolling around 165 students. The BCIS predecessor continued its development, and in the 2012–2013 school year the first generation of students graduated from CISS (the Canadian International School System, including BCIS). In December 2022, BCIS formalized a strategic partnership with Sedbergh School in the United Kingdom, with the signing taking place on December 2, 2022, launching Sedbergh Vietnam – BCIS and aligning with Sedbergh's nearly 500-year history. The partnership presents Sedbergh Vietnam as a pathway to a British-inspired international program and broader study opportunities at universities worldwide.

Community

Sedbergh Vietnam – BCIS supports a diverse learning community framed by a bilingual Cambridge-aligned program and a robust activity offering. The school reports about 1200 students per year and more than 40 clubs and houses, supporting a wide range of interests and peer groups. It hosts cultural and academic events such as the Winter Concert (2025) and a National English Debating & Public Speaking Contest (2025), as well as university-engagement activities including visits to RMIT University Vietnam for career discovery. The community emphasizes holistic development, with a multi-national teaching staff and a strong emphasis on preparing students for domestic and international higher education.

Parent-Teacher Association

Sedbergh Vietnam emphasizes a strong school–parent partnership as a core governance and community value. The school holds regular on-campus Parent-Teacher Conferences, with sessions scheduled on October 31, 2025 (8:00–16:00) and November 1, 2025 (8:00–12:00) to facilitate meetings between parents and teachers. Parents are encouraged to schedule meetings with teachers to discuss progress and to participate in ongoing dialogue about their children's development. The partnership is framed as essential for student growth and is reinforced through open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect between home and school. Parent involvement is reflected in school communications, updates, and events that keep families informed of academic priorities and community activities. The school explicitly promotes a school-parent partnership as part of its community ethos and governance.

The curriculum is designed to prepare students for local MOET graduation or international university entry, with a strong emphasis on a wide range of extracurricular activities. The campus supports more than 60 clubs, a six-house system, and a broad co-curricular program, alongside a school bus service for commuting families. The primary program covers Grades 1–5 and the secondary program covers Grades 6–12. The Head of School leads a leadership team that includes a Chief Academic Officer and vice principals for both primary and secondary divisions.
