The ABC International School provides Social and Emotional Learning through an extensive PSHE programme focused on health and well-being, and a school counsellor who leads wellbeing workshops for students.
The school uses a Support for Learning policy with early identification, the Assess-Plan-Do-Review (APDR) cycle, Waves of Support (Wave 1 Quality First Teaching; Wave 2 Targeted Interventions; Wave 3 External Specialist Support), and Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students on the SEND register; admission may be declined if the school cannot provide the necessary support, and English as an Additional Language (EAL) is not treated as a SEN.
EAL is not in itself a special educational need; EAL learners require time to develop English proficiency and receive high-quality teaching to support language development, with progress monitored across languages to determine if further assessment is needed.
Mental wellbeing is supported by The ABC Well-Being and Mental Health Policy, which includes a PSHE-based health and well-being curriculum, a school counsellor delivering workshops, staff well-being initiatives such as a Staff Welfare group, and a formal referral process via Heads of Year.
Safeguarding and child protection are governed by the Child Protection Policy, with safeguarding regarded as the responsibility of all staff and concerns referred to the Safeguarding Lead through the school's safeguarding processes.
