The Dewey Hai Phong campus grew out of The Dewey Schools' Hai Phong expansion, with earlier Hai Phong campuses established in 2016 and 2017 as part of The Dewey Schools Cau Giay and Duong Kinh developments. In 2021, Gateway Hai Phong was renamed The Dewey Hai Phong, marking its official integration into The Dewey Schools brand. The wider Dewey network traces its origins to Sakura Cau Giay in 2011, with later Hai Phong expansions in 2016 (Cau Giay & Sakura Van Cao) and 2017 (The Dewey Schools Duong Kinh), and continued growth including The Dewey Ocean Park in 2024. The Hai Phong campus is a member of the Council of International Schools and partners with Mount Vernon School in the United States for joint training, reflecting its international orientation. The school's philosophy centers on John Dewey's experiential, learner-centered approach, which the network promotes across its campuses.
The Dewey Hai Phong fosters an international learning community with English as the primary instructional language, supporting English usage for culture learning and global citizenship (English is used up to 85% in instruction). Class sizes are small, with 12–24 students per class, enabling close interaction with teachers. The campus offers 30+ after-school clubs and 10+ experiential events, contributing to a dynamic and collaborative school life. Parental engagement is supported through 1:1 parent conferencing, access to a Parent Handbook and School Calendar, and the Parents' Sharing section that features parent testimonials about the school experience.
A formal PTA is not listed among public-facing Hai Phong materials. Parent involvement is described through channels such as 1:1 Parent conferencing for school-parent companionship, the availability of a Parent Handbook (25–26 pages) and a School Calendar, and a Parents' Sharing section that collects parent testimonials. The campus highlights more than 30 after-school clubs and over 10 experiential events as core community activities, with field trips and meals noted in parent feedback. These elements illustrate an active family-engagement environment even without a separately named PTA. Public materials also show parent voices praising the student-centered approach and the learning experiences provided, reflecting ongoing family participation in the Dewey Hai Phong community.
