Curriculum details
The school follows both the French National Education Program and the English National Curriculum in a Franco-English bilingual program. It uses immersion with 50% of lessons in English; two days per week are taught in English, two in French, and one half-day is split between the two languages. All subjects are taught in both languages by native speakers, with additional French language support for pupils whose mother tongue is not French. Students reach a solid base in French and English, including reading, writing and arithmetic, by the end of CM2 (fifth grade). Class sizes are small, with no more than 20 children per class. The curriculum includes reasoning, synthesis, debate and public speaking, and theatre courses are offered through LAMDA.
Curriculum details
English and Mathematics are based on the English National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 & 2, with variations to suit the location in France. The bilingual program includes four days per week of English instruction (three and a half days for Year 6). Subjects taught through English include English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art and Design, Computing, and Physical Education. Reading is taught via Jolly Phonics with the Oxford Reading Tree scheme, and White Rose is used for mathematics; learning is organized around central themes with group and partner work to develop collaboration. MIS has an outstanding record of preparing children for transfer to other schools in their home environment, or to middle schools in the Paris area.

Admissions
Admissions are open for the 2026-2027 school year. An application package can be downloaded and returned to the Principal for review. There are no admission requirements for children entering at the pre-primary level (born between 2024 and 2022). An initial assessment in English and Maths may be requested for students entering at the primary level. We accept students from 2 years old (or turning 2 before December for a September intake) until Year 6 (grade 5; CM2). The school year runs from early September to early July. Malherbe International School has an open admissions policy and accepts applications throughout the academic year, including mid-year admissions. Tuition fees are detailed on the site. Children hoping to join the Spanish section program for 3-5 year olds must have a Spanish language background. Application requirements include: Application form; 2 last school reports for children entering Year 1 to Year 6 (Grande Section-CM2); Teacher evaluation form from current class teacher for children entering Year 1 to Year 6; Sample of applicant's in-class writing for children entering Year 3 to Year 6 (CE1 to CM2). We do not have any admission requirements for children entering at the pre-primary level. For local primary school applicants, a short assessment of English and Mathematics may be requested. Application package can be downloaded. Applications are open for the 2026-2027 school year. The small class size enables the school to accommodate many educational backgrounds and can be tailored in some circumstances to give extra support if necessary, including varying academic levels. Decisions about the admission of children with special educational needs are taken by the Principal based on the extent to which the school is able to meet the student's needs. Individual assessments are often required, and the school may request a recent Educational Psychologist's report to ensure that the school can meet the student's needs. Founded in 1990, Malherbe International School is a bilingual school located in the Western suburbs of Paris.
