Curriculum

The Moraitis School is an IB World School since 1984 and began offering the full IB Diploma Programme (DP) in 1991 for students finishing the Greek Lyceum and for students from non-Greek schools. The DP combines a Core of Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) with six subject groups: Studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and the Arts. Courses are offered at Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL); students study six subjects over two years, with at least three at HL. Group 1 languages can be taken in Greek or English, and a Bilingual Diploma is possible if Greek is chosen in Group 1. A seventh subject can be taken for an additional certificate; DP assessments are overseen by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). Pre-IB is provided as a two‑year bridge for external students to prepare for the DP, and students may alternatively continue to the Greek General Lyceum if they choose not to join the DP. History

Moraitis School opened in 1936 as Protypon Lykeion Athinon, founded by the mathematician Karl Berzan, in a neoclassical building on Mavrommaton Street, with 77 pupils and 11 teachers. In 1952 the operating license was transferred to Antonis Moraitis and the school relocated to Psychiko, then home to 618 pupils. Construction of a new building began in 1954, and by 1971 the campus accommodated about 2,000 pupils from nursery to lyceum with 250 teachers and 150 administrative staff, with the first blessing at the new building that year. The façade of the new building was designed by the artist Giannis Moralis in 1973. The school embraced the International Baccalaureate program in 1985, with the first IB Diploma cohort in 1992; in 2014 a nursery was established and the current leadership took office, enabling the school to admit children from age 3.

Admissions

1. Submit the Registration Application. The Registration Application must be completed by the parent or legal guardian of the child. The Registration Application is submitted via the online form at moraitis.openapply.com. This submission initiates the admissions process.

2. Nursery, First Nursery, and First Grade admissions. Eligibility depends on readiness to learn and emotional maturity, assessed through meetings with the school psychologists. Siblings already attending the School, alumni parent status, and the timing of the application influence the final selection. The final date to submit the application is December 1 of the year prior to the child's attendance, and the selection process runs from November to February; for the Nursery, the process occurs between March and April.

3. Intermediate grades (lower and upper primary) admissions. Applications are accepted only if vacancies exist. Candidates must reach at least an average level for the grade and have English knowledge at the level taught at the School. Selection includes written and oral examinations and an interview. For Grades 5 and 6, knowledge of French, German, or Spanish is also required. The admissions process for these grades takes place in May, before the school year begins.

4. Gymnasium – Lyceum and IB admissions. Examinations are conducted for all Gymnasium and for A' Lyceum (PreIB). Prior satisfactory grades from the student's previous school are required, along with knowledge of English and French and German or Spanish, at levels taught at the School. The selection process occurs between March and May, with an emphasis on each student's prior performance and language abilities; for the International Baccalaureate, the English proficiency level must be at least Cambridge FCE, and the interview is held around the end of March.

5. Communications. The School is not responsible if communication is not possible due to changes of address or telephone numbers.

Scholarships

1. Scholarships admissions pathway. Applications for admission with a scholarship to Gymnasium-Lyceum/PreIB are processed through the standard admissions portal. The scholarship process includes a first round of written exams on Saturday 14 March 2026, followed by a second phase on Sunday 15 March 2026 for those who qualify in the first round; the second phase includes additional academic assessment and personal interviews. CGS opened in September 1973 in Marousi with 330 students. In September 1981, new premises were inaugurated in Pallini, Attiki. The school became an official University of London GCE Test Centre in August 1993 and established the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in September 1994. The Athletic & Cultural Centre opened in 2003, the Alumni Association was re-established in 2005, and CGS rebranded as CGS in 2016. CGS Ellinikon was announced in 2022 with a Memorandum of Understanding to create a new primary and secondary organization, and first CGS Ellinikon students are expected in September 2026.

CGS has an Alumni Association re-established in 2005 with over 4,000 active members. In 1996 LFHED enters the AEFE network; in 2008 the establishment adopts the name Lycée Franco-Hellénique Eugène Delacroix; in 2016 LFHED marked 35 years in Agia Paraskevi and 40 years since the bilateral agreement, with a commemorative plaque above the main entrance.

Community

LFHED is a high-level establishment with an international identity; 47 nationalities are represented among its students. By convention with AEFE, LFHED is integrated into the global network of French lycées, currently 500 schools in 137 countries, and includes a British International Section within the French section. Recognized as a foreign private establishment by the Greek Ministry of Education, it offers the Greek-section students the best opportunity in Greece to learn the French language and culture through high-quality teaching in a bilingual and bicultural setting and direct contact with francophone students. LabelFrancEducation was awarded in 2015 (renewed in 2018), attesting to the quality of French instruction in the Greek section and facilitating higher education in France.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

LFHED is a conventioned establishment managed by a parent management committee; it is a private local institution with its own status and has signed a convention with AEFE. The Association for the Teaching of French in Greece (AEFG) is a non-profit cultural association created to manage the Lycée under the bilateral agreement signed on 28 November 1986. AEFG's missions include the administrative, financial and material management of LFHED; promoting French language and culture in Greece; promoting activities of educational, cultural or sporting nature; and acquiring buildings for LFHED's work. The LFHED Board of Directors comprises 16 members: an Honorary President (the Director General of AEFE), six ex officio voting members (including the Cooperation and Cultural Attache of the French Embassy, the LFHED principal, the Administrative and Financial Director, the Director of the primary school, the Director of the lycee's Greek section, and the Director of the gymnasium), and nine administrators (six French-section representatives and three Greek-section representatives). Board terms are three years, with three officers—President, Secretary and Treasurer—holding designated roles.

Facilities Overview

LFHED has a dedicated Vie Scolaire office focused on student well-being and harmonious cohabitation. The Conseiller Principal d'Éducation (CPE) oversees the Internal Regulations and coordinates eleven education assistants. The five missions of Vie Scolaire include supervision and safety outside class hours, managing absences and lateness, enforcing the internal regulations, fostering citizenship and recreational activities, and providing personal follow-up for students. The main reception is open from 7:45 to 18:30, supporting student access to the campus. The courtyard and the large dining hall are central spaces used for meals and social interaction, and the Bibliothèque Centre Documentaire (BCD) is a library space open to all primary students for reading activities, author visits, and student exhibitions.

Sports Facilities

LFHED offers sports and physical activities through its AES program. The program includes swimming (Piscine) and tennis as listed activities. Other sports are available such as karate, fencing (Escrime), archery (Tir à l'arc), dance, gymnastics, and roller sports. Most AES activities run after school, typically from 14:40 to 16:35, with some options extending to 17:00, and there are additional after-school services like study support and childcare.

Academic Facilities

The Bibliothèque Centre Documentaire (BCD) is a primary library space open to all primary students, hosting reading animations, author visits, and student exhibitions. It houses around 12,000 works, including books, magazines in French, Greek, and English, and a library of sound recordings. The BCD has been part of the school since 1999 and was renovated in 2015. LFHED also provides an IT charter with individualized login credentials for accessing the school's computing resources, including a private storage space, a shared class drive, a staff-student zone, and Internet access with content filtering.

Extra Curricular Facilities

The LFHED AES program (Activités Extra-Scolaires) runs after school for primary to CM2, including supervision and childcare, with registration via the Eduka platform. The program features a wide range of activities in French and Greek, covering languages (English, Arabic, Greek), arts (culinary, visual arts, storytelling, film and comics clubs), theatre, music, dance, chess, game-based activities, and science/tech pursuits (robotics and coding). The 2025-2026 programming begins on September 29, 2025, with additional supervised study and childcare starting September 2, 2025; fees are listed per activity and paid quarterly. Examples of AES offerings include: English, Arabic, Greek language sessions; culinary arts, arts plastiques, conte/history/storytelling, BD-Cinéclub, video club, classical and rhythmic dance, chess, escape games, fencing, science games, theatre (French and English), archery, robotics and coding, roller, tennis, swimming, and more.

Academic & Intellectual

The school follows the French National Education curriculum. It comprises two sections, a French section and a Greek section, with a language policy guiding how languages are used in teaching. The school is part of the AEFE network. It participates in Erasmus+ exchanges, runs a Model United Nations program, and publishes Echo d'Eugène, the school's student journal.

Arts & Creative

The school offers theatre education as part of the Lycée. Echo d'Eugène serves as the student-produced school journal that showcases writing and creative work. The two language sections support bilingual and cross-cultural expression in the arts.

Language Provision

In the Greek section, French is taught as the first foreign language with five hours per week, and English as the second foreign language with three hours per week. The program includes preparation and certification for French and English language exams (DELF/DALF and FCE or CPE) depending on level, plus two hours per week of extra preparation for higher-level certificates (B2/C2 and FCE/CPE) on Wednesdays from 14:50 to 16:35. English teaching is a priority in the Greek section with reinforced instruction (three hours per week) and level-based grouping, supported by materials and digital tools. The French program is prioritized as well, with five hours of French per week (LV1) and an enhanced curriculum (DNL/EMILE) aiming to reach at least B2; LFHED is an official DELF-DALF exam center with on-site exams and admission-support provisions for students.

Bilingual Teaching

The LFHED is organized around two distinct sections: a French curriculum from preschool through terminale and a Greek curriculum from Gymnasion to Lykeio. The school is open to Greeks, French, and others, and provides the opportunity to learn Greek and French in a bilingual, bicultural environment. There is a British International Section within the French section, adding to the school's international profile. The LFHED has an international identity with 47 nationalities represented among the students.

Immersion Programs

LFHED uses an integrated language approach across the curriculum (DNL: non-linguistic disciplines; EMILE), with French taught in non-language subjects through modular, thematic teaching. This immersion is supported by the two-section structure and by joint projects, exchanges, and educational activities that link the French and Greek sections. Scholarships

Principles of allocation: Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and may cover all or part of tuition fees. They can be awarded to children enrolled in a French-established school abroad, in pre-elementary, elementary, and secondary cycles. Conditions of allocation: - Nationality: Children for whom a scholarship is requested must be French nationals. - Consular registration: Children candidates for a scholarship must be registered in the world register of French citizens living abroad. - Family residence: Children must reside with at least one parent in the country where the school is located. Any deviation must be justified. - Age: To be eligible for a scholarship, a child must have reached the normal entry age for maternelle petite section, i.e., 3 years old in the calendar year of the school year (child born in 2019).
