Billing schedule and payment terms

Admissions

IST is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational day school. Priority for admissions is given to international, English-speaking candidates, then to international candidates who do not speak English, and to enrolled students' siblings. Class size is limited, and a waiting list is created once all places in a given class are filled. To enter Nursery, students must be three years old during the calendar year of entry and toilet trained. To enter Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade, students must be four, five, and six years old, respectively, by December 31 of the entry year. IST reserves the right to determine appropriate grade level placements. After First Grade, students are placed according to their previous schooling, official transfer documents, birth date, and English language skills; placement examinations in English and mathematics may be used for Grades 6-12. Students may enter the school with no English-speaking skills at Nursery, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten and will be enrolled in the English Language Center (ELC) program; families pay an additional fee for this program for as long as the school deems it necessary, and the school will make the final ELC placement. In extenuating circumstances, IST may admit students with incomplete admission documents; if, after an initial six-week period, the school does not receive the necessary documents, it reserves the right to exclude the student(s). The Italian Parità Scolastica status in Early Childhood and Elementary School allows IST to offer the Italian national curriculum in Elementary School; in Middle School all students are offered Italian as the first foreign language. High School students are expected to meet the requirements for the IST American High School Diploma, and the school offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Scholarships

For the school year 2019-2020, the International School of Turin will make available scholarships to students currently not studying at the School, aged seventeen by 31 December 2019, and have completed the equivalent of International School of Turin's Grade 10. Uniform Requirement

All students wear a uniform. Scholarships

Three IB Diploma Programme scholarships are awarded annually to students of high academic ability. A Scholarship recognises a student's academic performance, potential and participation in school life, and scholars are leaders in the Sixth Form and the broader school community. Scholarships are open on a competitive basis to all candidates who meet the eligibility criteria; awards are merit-based. External candidates should complete the main application form and email admissions to add their child to the scholarships list; internal candidates should email admissions to be added. Notes on instalment schedules and discounts

- The school offers a choice between the standard three-instalment schedule and alternative annual, five-instalment or ten-instalment plans; the annual payment carries a small discount for private clients, while more frequent instalment plans incur a small surcharge as stated above.

Food Options

Lunch is provided as part of the primary school day, from 12:00 to 12:30, beginning with Year 1 and ending with Year 6. Students play in the garden after lunch until 13:30.

Governance and Ownership

The New School Rome is a private, not-for-profit association. There are two decision-making bodies: the Academic Council and the Executive Council. The Academic Council is the main policy-making forum and includes teachers and student representatives from Year 7 and above; it meets once every half term. The Executive Council is the governing body of The New School Association and has responsibility for all strategic, legal and financial aspects of the school's management and organization. The Council is made up of seven members: four parent members (three elected and one co-opted), the Academic Council Chairperson (Headteacher) and two elected teacher members. The Chairperson of the Council is a parent member and is elected by the Council to hold this office. The current Executive Council for 2025/2026 includes Luigi Ardito (Chairperson), Norman Doyle (Vice-Chair and Chairperson of the Academic Council), parent members Giorgio Pogliotti, Luigi Ardito, Paolo Bernini, Laura De Plato, and teacher members Chris Reid and Erica Ricci. Curriculum

The New School Rome follows the English National Curriculum for pupils aged 3–18. It is organized into Foundation Stage, Primary, and Secondary. In Secondary, there is a creative core in Art and Drama alongside core academic study. A-Levels are offered for 16+ as a pathway to universities in the UK and worldwide. The school maintains small class sizes and a favorable student-teacher ratio to support individual attention.

Exam Results

Academic Year 2025 shows strong examination results; The New School Rome is one of the best performing schools in Europe for exam results. For A-Levels, the 3-year aggregate is A–A 49% and A–C 89%. For GCSE, the 3-year aggregate is A–A 48% and A–C 87%. Cohorts are small, typically 16–20 students in examination years.

Higher Education Progression

Graduates pursue higher education at universities around the world. Destinations include Oxford, St Andrews, Cambridge, LUISS, Bocconi and MIT. A-Levels and the EPQ provide preparation for university applications.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The New School Rome aims to develop social and emotional wellbeing as a foundation for every student's education. The Primary curriculum emphasises emotional security and a strong sense of community, with PSHE included among core subjects. The school creates a safe space where children can take risks, develop empathy, and form meaningful relationships. Pastoral wellbeing is prioritised alongside academic achievement to support learning. The school's approach to wellbeing is holistic, combining academic learning with social and emotional growth.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The New School Rome has a dedicated Learning Support offering a 3 Steps to Success programme to support students with special educational needs. There are four broad SEN areas: Cognition and Learning; Communication and Interaction; Social, Emotional and Mental Health; and Sensory and/or Physical Difficulties. The SEN approach includes Step 1 in-class strategies, Step 2 focused 1:1 support with the Learning Support teacher against individual goals, and Step 3 referral to external consultants when needed. English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school has two specially trained teachers of English as an Additional Language who support students one to one, in groups, or within the classroom. EAL focuses on learning English while also learning through English, using the mainstream curriculum as the context. On arrival, children are assessed and placed into an appropriate EAL stage; beginners receive 1:1 sessions; out-of-class groups are used as progress allows. In senior school, tailored EAL support continues, with progression monitoring and liaison with subject teachers, including IELTS support.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is a core consideration in The New School Rome's approach to education. The school states a founding aim of social and emotional wellbeing and emphasises a safe, supportive environment for learning. It highlights community and emotional security as essential to developing resilience, empathy, and wellbeing.

Safeguarding

Designated safeguarding leads are Charlotte Flanaggan (Senior School Co-ordinator) and Kate Downes (Whole School Co-ordinator). The safeguarding policy follows Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022 and is supported by related policies such as Health & Safety, Data Protection, and Dress Code. Staff receive safeguarding training and follow clear safeguarding procedures, with a designated safeguarding lead coordinating responses to concerns.
