Christian international schools in Japan are faith-based, English-medium schools that combine an explicit Christian ethos - Bible lessons, chapel and pastoral care - with internationally recognised curricula rather than following only the Japanese national system. Many offer American or British programmes, and an increasing number deliver parts of the IB continuum; Japanese language study and EAL (English as an additional language) support are commonly provided for non-native speakers. Fees vary widely by location and age, with Tokyo schools often in the mid-to-high range for international schooling while smaller Christian academies and community schools can be noticeably cheaper; expect published tuition to be only part of the cost once registration, capital levies, lunches and activities are included. Most schools follow a Western academic year with main intake for an August/September start and some rolling entry in younger grades, and choices are concentrated in Tokyo and other major cities so families relocating outside large urban areas should check availability early.
