Social and emotional development is central to Barker College's approach. In Kinder, the axes of activity are socialization and the development of socio-emotional processes, with play as a central aspect of learning in a caring and supportive context that fosters social skills, initiative, and positive interactions with peers and adults. English is introduced naturally in meaningful everyday contexts to promote bilingualism and the spontaneous use of the second language. In the Secondary level, the school promotes empathy and trust among all members of the school community—leaders, teachers, tutors, assistants, parents and students—and extends this to broader social contexts to foster solidarity and citizenship through community projects such as those in partnership with external organizations. As part of the Upper School, the Bitácora program accompanies students in self-knowledge, helps them understand the academic and professional landscape they will face after graduation, and supports decisions about their itineraries in this new stage.
The Primary Level has an official full-day bilingual program, and Barker College is recognized for its high academic standards, with attention to the diverse needs of children.
Two languages coexist in a single curriculum at the Primary Level, and both languages are taught concurrently in writing and speaking. The two languages are studied across the curriculum in English, including natural and social sciences, mathematics and literature, enabling ongoing bilingual development. In Secondary, subjects are taught in English to deepen language use across disciplines and to enable Cambridge exams (CAE, CPE, IGCSE and AS/A Levels). French is taught as a third language, with students certifying their level through Alliance Française exams (A1, A2 and B1).
The Personal, Social, Emotional and Health Development (PSE) Program supports holistic student growth. It includes Emotions Programs, Conflict Resolution and Social Skills, Barker Leadership Project, Solidarity Projects, Tutoring, the National Sexual Education Program (Law 26.150), Bitácora Project, Outdoor Education, and a Healthy Dining Program, with cross-disciplinary content in academic areas. Implementation involves the teaching team, Guidance Department, Physical Education Department and School Leadership to tailor activities to each age group.
